Well, I’ll agree that they fought. But I think many that fought on their behalf were/still are very divisive, hostile, selfish and had no qualms pitting one small group of lower SES students against others of equal need. Frankly, there’s no way I’m putting my kids in the lottery for Key; the parents have been a huge turn-off and I don’t know whether it will be a healthy environment for the next few years.[/quote]

It’s very popular with English speakers who want their kids to be bilingual. They blame APS for not enticing enough Spanish speakers to the schools to accommodate more ES in a 50:50 ratio. There’s even a guy on AEM who advocates for ALL APS schools to be immersion, and says that it should be forced to people who don’t want it, because “they don’t understand what’s best for themselves.” The elephant in the room is that Spanish speakers can become bilingual just by attending their neighborhood schools.
