Not a Crossfield parents. But all Crosssfield students are closer to Western than Oakton.. |
I'm a Crossfield parent and don't feel bullied by any of the comments about the Crossfield parents because I generally agree with the comments about the Crossfield parents. I'm pretty sure that more than half of us want to stay at Oakton, but we aren't loud or obnoxious enough. |
+1 Especially that FCPS is losing trust by the day. So much purported energy and enthusiasm for the new school? Then why do they schedule a last minute meeting with 8th graders and present a bunch of propaganda about what type of drone, AI, and aerospace programs they’ll get to participate in at the new school…before anything official has been announced to parents! The school didn’t even get enough advance notice about this meeting to properly field questions from parents. The leadership at FCPS has failed!! |
Nope, the bully is the woman leading this effort. She bullies the kids and she bullies other parents. IYKYK - lots of people have piped up on this board about her. |
It's funny that you think you're in the majority here. It's not a couple people who want to go to the new school. You're a joke. |
Ha! I’m not an OP but know exactly who you are talking about. |
Even if they did, SLHS families wanted IB and in many cases moved close to the school specifically for IB. |
Pretty sure they do request it. But, go watch citizen participation from South Lakes Boundary in 2008. Fox Mill and Floris families begged for them to change to AP. They refused to consider it. |
You are aware that 2008 was almost 20 years ago and those people’s kids have graduated now, right? |
|
Just checked transfer dashboard. Even with the large influx from Herndon to South Lakes (likely because of the AAP program at Hughes), the transfer out is far greater than the transfer in.
Get rid of IB and a lot of the problems will resolve themselves. Get rid of AAP centers in middle school and there will be fewer transfers in high school. Pretty simple. |
DP without a dog in the fight here. You guys have been bashing this woman relentlessly. I think you’re turning a lot of people off of your cause. May want to dial it back. Approach it from a standpoint that people are looking out for their kids and will doggedly fight for them, just like you are. |
Plenty do ask and have asked since the school was moved. And they are ignored. And they pupil place out to other schools. You don’t notice because Herndon HS kids pupil place at SLHS because their friends from AAP are at SLHS or they don’t want to be at Herndon. Families move out of Fox Mill to attend different HS because they don’t want IB. If people wanted the IB, more than 50 kids a year would complete the diploma. |
Which is why you have the ability to opt out for THE NEXT THREE YEARS. |
| I’m a Crossfield parent of a 7th grader. I hope that we get moved to Western. My child has made a lot of new friends at Western and is bummed that they won’t go to the same high school. They are hoping that we’ll be rezoned to Western but we’ve discussed and they are aware that a lot of parents feel differently. It’s just such a bummer because all of their new friends PLUS a lot of the kids they play sports with in CYA will end up at Western. They would like to remain with their Carson and CYA friends. As a parent, I want this for them too. It’s hard to see friends ripped apart (this already happened when a handful of kids ended up at Hughes this year) and we expected it for high school but wouldn’t it be great if all the Carson kids could stay together?? That’s what we want - and like I said, I’m a parent of an older “Crossfield kid”. I know some of my kid’s friends and their parents feel the same way. Even some whose older siblings are at Oakton. Not every parent of a high schooler likes it - I’ve heard about bullying and too much competitiveness. I really just want stability. |
| (Should say made new friends at Carson) |
