And rather than reducing rural crime in their own states? Or doing their own jobs and being with their own families instead of standing around at Krispy Kreme on a Friday night surrounded by people who hate you?

Fifteen year old gangbangers don’t go through a background check to buy a gun on the street.

try again MAGA. Pirro is actively *letting kids go* with guns in DC due to her demented gun rights stance. And if there was national gun control we could stem the tide of illegal guns. GOP’s absolutely suicidal refusal to allow gun control is THE CAUSE of the violent crime (and suicide epidemic largely) in DC and across the nation. GOP are absolute hypocrites on crime in DC - and let’s not even get into the J6 pardons.

If DC was such a hell scape, then why do Trump's wealthiest cabinet members live in DC. Hell, Stephen Miller lives in DC. If it was so dangerous you would think he'd live in VA. DC is one of the most educated cities in the country. Logic should tell you that people do not live in fear here.

The places with the most crime is seeing very few federal troops. Make that make sense.

It makes sense because having the federal troops in the commercial, nightlife, and federal district allows MPD and federal law enforcement to target high crime areas. Why is that so difficult to understand, especially for such an educated city?

Having federal troops in a city where the mayor did not ask for help and where there is no national emergency is dictator sh*t. How can *you* not understand this basic, fundamental fact. If you are concerned about dealing with real crime in a city, you do things to assist the police force and law enforcement institutions in that city. You don't send in the military. This is seriously un-American, autocratic nonsense.

Because it’s their national capital too. Because their kids will visit DC during high school. Some might even be brave enough to intern in DC.

Uh huh. Except he plans to do this to other cities too.

I hate to break it to you but 15 NG standing around literally eating donuts is not making DC any safer for lil Madysyn’s 10th grade trip to DC.

Crime has actually increased. Even the homeless seem more numeral.

Kids never stopped visiting DC. Young people never stopped flocking to the city. We've grown year after year. DC was always beautiful. If Trump had not cut the Park Service, they would be doing these tasks much cheaper. What you clearly don't understand is that most of our parks in DC (even the little ones) are federal.

I think the NG are standing around saying damn this city is niiiccceee.

First, I understand that the District is different from any other city in the country, and since under federal jurisdiction, they can do whatever they want.

Re: autocracy
Were you defending folks who didn't want to leave their property after Katrina? Or wanted to carry a gun to defend themselves against looters? National Guard troops then violated their rights in the name of an "emergency." These guys are not doing that. They are providing deterrence with their presence, and allowing the police to focus on other neighborhoods. Honestly, we spend a lot of money for our military, and I would rather have them doing something that makes our life better, like defending our border and fighting crime than causing mischief around the world.

The National Guard are here because the President is using them to create a visible symbol of his military power in a city that is controlled by his political opponents. It has zero to do with Katrina. The National Guard are not police.

The guns on the street come from straw purchasers in states where it is easy, usually the South.
