we live in a city. A beautiful city. Do we have crime, yes. All cities do. Do people flock here to work, yes they do. If DC was such a hell scape, then why do Trump's wealthiest cabinet members live in DC. Hell, Stephen Miller lives in DC. If it was so dangerous you would think he'd live in VA. DC is one of the most educated cities in the country. Logic should tell you that people do not live in fear here.

It makes sense because having the federal troops in the commercial, nightlife, and federal district allows MPD and federal law enforcement to target high crime areas. Why is that so difficult to understand, especially for such an educated city?

Judge Zia Faruqui came in as the first Muslim judge on D.C.’s federal bench, with a background in diversity and reentry programs—and it shows in how he rules. He’s tossed out or gutted case after case: calling the FBI’s arrest of Torez Riley “the most illegal search I’ve ever seen,” letting Edward Dana walk after threatening to kill the president and a cop, and watching multiple felony assault charges collapse into misdemeanors or disappear. Wrong. I’ve seen them in the Metro and in Union Station. Both formerly higher crime areas.

The metro is a system, not a place. Union Station is federally owned and no it did not have high crime just a lot of homeless people.

There have been multiple recorded stabbings and murders in Union Station and Metro Center in the past several years. Stop lying.

There are levels to crime. DC, compared to most first world capital cities, is EXTREMELY dangerous by any metric. Specifically murder.

And compared to other prominent American cities like LA and NYC it is extremely dangerous as well. If NYC had DC’s murder rate in 2024 it would have more than 2,100 murders. In 2024, NYC recorded 382 murders.

The thing is, if you had an additional 1,800 MPD standing around there would be a reduction in crime. The force is short nearly 1,000 officers, so if they were fully staffed and even a few more, you’d likely see similar reductions in crime. But it’s expensive and difficult to hire officers vs ordering NG to be there, who have no choice and I assume are paid significantly less and receive lower benefits. Perhaps the federal government should fully fund policing in the federal city but let DC make its own decisions.
