It's pretty up front when you donate a building and put your name on it. There's a whole other level of egregious when you talk a game about how hard your kids worked to earn it or how important good values are, and you are doing the admissions equivalent of a gloryhole at the side door.

You are confused, because right now it's perfectly legal for gazillionaires to donate millions (a la Jared Kushner) transparently. What this thread is about is people bribing people with power to influence admissions decisions to enrich their own pocket, rather than that of the university.

Harvard has a huge endowment that has grown over a century, as do most elite schools. They are not so desperate for money that they need to sell admission to the mediocre.

So dumb. pell grant $5500 Tuition and room and board $72000... all of the financial aid is principally parent and legacy donation!! There are very few pell grant kids at ivies anyway. The federal money is for research. when I read these post i understand why Donald Trump is a hero to 40% of the populations... so stupid
