For all the new outrage at million$ being donated and rich kids getting into colleges: where do you think the financial aid money tree come from? |
Um, Pell grants are federal sources. Many students get aid. Harvard gets billions in federal grants. They don't get to take public money and have sketchy admissions practices. |
It's pretty up front when you donate a building and put your name on it. There's a whole other level of egregious when you talk a game about how hard your kids worked to earn it or how important good values are, and you are doing the admissions equivalent of a gloryhole at the side door. |
Really? Where'd the kid go instead? |
Right, because colleges benefit none whatsoever when gazillionaires donate millions. |
You are confused, because right now it's perfectly legal for gazillionaires to donate millions (a la Jared Kushner) transparently. What this thread is about is people bribing people with power to influence admissions decisions to enrich their own pocket, rather than that of the university. |
Harvard has a huge endowment that has grown over a century, as do most elite schools. They are not so desperate for money that they need to sell admission to the mediocre. |
So dumb. pell grant $5500 Tuition and room and board $72000... all of the financial aid is principally parent and legacy donation!! There are very few pell grant kids at ivies anyway. The federal money is for research. when I read these post i understand why Donald Trump is a hero to 40% of the populations... so stupid |
Yes he is so stupid. |
Well maybe you can manage the Harvard Management Company! They have money cause they are ALWAYS looking to get more. It's not a state school. |
He’s probably still looking into how to cheat the bar exam. |
William Rick Singer is now reporting to authorities that 750 families paid him to get their kids in. More parents will be getting charged with crimes. This is the tip of the iceberg. Singer wasn’t the only criminal doing this. |
That’s insane. |
Bullshit. The FBI had him and other cooperating parents wearing wires for months to catch people on tape. I guarantee those 700+ names never see light of day. They’re already shielding at least one filthy rich family name — 1.5M to Yale? — because they cooperated. |
