FCPS Skyview Boundary Scenario 1/2/3

Save the old version of the slides before they change those up too!

I cannot believe the school board buckled to the RIO crowd, whose entire case for staying at Oakton boiled down to nothing but "feelings" and nostalgia. So you let Westfield get gutted down to 74% capacity and left to spiral while Oakton, a school that's already bursting at the seams after an expensive renovation, gets to skate by basically untouched. Corruption doesn't get much more obvious than this.

The same schools from Westfield would have been moved to Skyview if Crossfield had been moved to Skyview. Crossfield and Fox Mill are the two that were on the table, nothing would have changed at Westfield.

Westfield not being backfilled the way people expected comes down to Chantilly and Centreville not wanting to move to Westfield.

DP. The cowardice is contagious and ends up affecting the entire process.

The corruption of publicly posting maps and slides and then someone calling in a favor and switching back a neighborhood the consultants clearly designated as should be moved is insane. Like we are watching the corruption happen in plain sight.

I don't have kids at Westfield but drawing these bizarre boundaries that clearly exempt nearby wealthy areas is disgusting.

Crossfield would feed to three different middle schools and three different high schools. Why on earth would they do that?

Under any of the scenarios Skyview will be one of the smallest high schools in the county. Without part of Crossfield it’s even smaller.

The favoritism that FCPS has displayed towards Langley, Oakton, Madison, West Springfield, and even Chantilly to some extent throughout these boundary processes is truly something to behold. It’s somewhere between cowardly and corrupt, and it shows that these folks have zero commitment to providing kids with equitable access to quality education.

Can you explain further.

Current Capacity % = 98%
October maps % = 93%
April Maps % = 83%
May Maps % = 74%

I'm sure the Westfield community wasn't complaining as much as others and that's why they've been left to rot.

Well half the current Westfield families are being moved out to Skyview.

The other half -the Stone MS feeder areas-has not been involved because none of those areas are being changed. So of course they haven't heard much from Westfield.

Emptying out a HS and then only adding in low income neighborhoods is so cowardly.

We all pay taxes: Westfield should have a reasonable population of students that reflects Western Fairfax and not crazy boundaries that were drawn as favors to Reid's friends. Leaving 800 seats vacant is nuts.

Right. You usually don't see the political corruption and favoritism playing out right in the open. What we just saw is basically like someone in a meeting stuffing a $100 bill in Reid's pocket.

Yes, you can see on the slides that Walney Oaks area meant to go to Stone/Westfield.

Well, they just approved spending tens of millions on Dunn Loring ES, which isn’t needed at all, and that is like stuffing far more money in the pockets of Karl Frisch and his “allies.” None of the corruption and favoritism should surprise anyone at this point. If it does, you haven’t been paying attention. As the saying goes, “it’s not a bug, it’s a feature.”

They were in the very first link in the email sent out today, don't be so lazy. I'll spoon feed you so you stop spamming the board. https://www.fcps.edu/sites/default/files/260526_WXY_Fairfax_Skyview_Meeting%202%20%281%29.pdf

I scoured that email and the boundary site and I didn't see them.

Because I'm not as much of an a-hole as you, I will say thank you.

Some of us are not on the email list.

It's only a giant highlighted button labeled "View May community meeting presentation" in the section labeled "Community Meetings" where they explicitly discuss the "revised scenarios that will be presented." I can see how you'd miss that if you actually read any of it.

Dunn loring is a dilapidated building that serves no real purpose. Maybe it’s not desperately needed right this second, but it will be needed in 5-10 years. I’m glad it’s getting put to decent use.

I just looked on the map and it’s really not a large area. Would it really make that big of a difference at Westfield?

I think it is the way it has unfolded. It is 128 homes plus some townhouses (according to their website.) I don't know how that translates to numbers in high school. However, it opens only to Walney Rd--right across from a neighborhood slated for Westfield (I think.) So, it would have two school buses right at the same place. That translates to FCPS $$$$

It has been at Cub Run I think, so this really makes little sense.
