Schools will have to close at this rate.

They wouldn’t have to if they’d just pull their head out of their butt. I know they find it comfortable there, though. FCPS managed its second week just fine. In fact, Fairfax cases are down week over week, and positivity is down as well. MoCo loves the drama.

I wouldn't be too sure about that, re: FCPS. They hide their numbers too.

Are you implying that the county is hiding numbers? The rate is decreasing at the county level. If there were more cases in schools, those numbers would be included in the county numbers regardless of what FCPS is reporting.

I don't know. Could there be a backlog? Parents are saying FCPS isn't reporting all cases.

What do you mean by not reporting? Are parents saying that FCPS does in house testing and not reporting to the county? If so, that would be a problem. If students are being tested outside of FCPS then the numbers would be included in the county count.

I don't know how accurate that number is, but it wouldn't surprise me based on Frederick Co. 450 out of 160,000 is not bad. But I think it is fair to expect it to increase. Covid tests seem harder to get now as well so it could delay some students being able to return.

I keep hearing covid tests are harder to get in other states where covid is surging as well. Usually states that are "beyond the surge."

This concerns me. A lot.

It's 1000, actually, according to WTOP who asked an MCPS official.

1000 kids in quarantine.

Just five days after students returned to school in Montgomery County, Maryland, approximately 1,000 students and staff are in quarantine.

As dozens of reports of individuals who’ve tested positive for COVID-19 at Montgomery County schools are recorded, the school system updated the quarantine guidance for unvaccinated students.

According to the FCPS website, in-house testing by a third-party provider hasn't happened yet. Testing is done in partnership with the county:

"In addition to the emerging partnership for screening testing described above, we continue to partner with the Fairfax County Health Department (FCHD) to provide diagnostic testing for symptomatic, in-person students or staff who are unable to access testing independently."

Therefore, if the FCPS numbers are not being reported, this needs to be investigated because that would mean the Fairfax County Health Department is involved.

I am interested know how long it will take to get the kids back to school. So 30 kid in Mr B's class are home until Sam's test results come back because he coughed 3 times. Assuming negative, 2-3 days?

Good question. Does anyone know why MCPS is claiming they can't do mandatory testing? Meaning can you point to the law or guidelines ?

Rate is a bad word. They'd have to close because of bad policy. So if a kid has a wet fart that he/she lost control of, boom...everybody goes home. MCPS is the worst in the nation at this.

And yet, according to the NYT, 1/5 of all Kentucky school systems have temporarily closed this year already.

Only 1/5 temporarily? They’re doing pretty good given the mask culture.

I heard he actually had COVID! So glad they took these measures to protect the other children.

They are required by law to report to the health department. Don’t listen to the rumor mill.

"As of Friday night, the Montgomery County schools COVID-19 cases dashboard included more than 40 letters from officials at schools across the district reporting on cases of individuals who tested positive for the coronavirus."

From the WTOP link posted above.

And as posters on DCUM have said repeatedly, MANY cases are not being reported by MCPS.

Not reporting what and to whom? MCPS is not testing individual kids it has nothing to report to the health department. Any lab confirmed positive case is reported to to the county. When MCPS learns of a positive case from parents it is supposed to contact the county for instructions. I bet the county dhhs advised MCPS on this ludicrous policy because they knew they are going to be inundated with requests when 160K students return to the classroom.
