| Trashy English fans already attacking Italy supporters and tweeting racist abuse at the black players who missed penalties. I hope all their club sides get relegated to League 2 or lower. Nothing like living down to expectations, guys. |
What's new. |
It’s not like Italy has a great rep, historically, either. |
Kinda obvious. Two guys cold off the bench and a teenager. Dumb, dumb, dumb. |
Speaking of racist...why is it England subbed off only 1 BIPOC and that was at the end? Hmm? 3/5s of the penalty takes BIPOCs??? We need to expand this racism convo |
it's because they're ra-

Are people really serious? Italy is far far more racist than England, and had committed and abetted genocide in modern times. The only difference is that at least since the Roman Empire, Italy has been far less successful than England. The real problem is the presumption of English fans that only poor luck has deprived them of what they think is their ownership of major trophies, not the inferior talent that had held them back for decades. Today and throughout this tourney, their coach was their biggest problem. |

I wanted England to win, but the entire 2nd half, Italy played better (and dirty/nasty).
Still, PKs are a lousy way to end it |
Nice shot. Also yeah - its funny that Southgate lost his own championship the exact way he coached this game. |
Because this basically looks exactly like world opinion about England vs the Third Reich in 1940 during the Battle of Britain, you will understand how very little I care about world opinion. People hate both success and arrogance, and when it is uncoupled from power, will naturally pile on. It’s deserved, predictable, and irrelevant to how I feel about what I see on the field. England underachieved and Italy overachieved in this tourney, and the latter certainly earned my respect and admiration. The former, at least at the player level, earned my sympathy. |
| Hate England all you like, but I don’t get all this caping for a country that was allied with the Nazis. There doesn’t have to be a good guy in every battle. |
| I’m Italian-American. Yay Italy! |
Who said there was? We're talking about football in 2021, not WWII. Opening up a historical Pandora's box with regard to sporting events is a futile exercise. The British Empire has quite a lot of blood on its hands, too; there are no good guys there either, just more or less recent bad guys. I hate England because of England fans and English sports media, not because I have a soft spot for Benito Mussolini, nor do I hold the 2021 Italian soccer team responsible for what their great-grandparents may or may not have been involved in 80 years ago. Or Toni Kroos responsible for his dead relatives, or Alvaro Morata as a reflection of Francisco Franco, or anybody else. Historical rabbit holes just don't work in sports. |
