In the end Eriksen came out of that laughing with a Scudetto medal and Mourinho being sacked a week leading up to the one piece of silverware he could have won at Spurs. But whether ERiksen has a future after this horrific heart attack is the question. Reminds me of Marco Van Basten's ankle injury ending his blossoming career so early and that's what may happen to Eriksen (personally I hope not). |
| I cannot believe Erickson would play (or be allowed to) with a pacemaker. |
Why not ? Others do Anthony van loo did it and it saved his life in a game Watch Netherlands play this week, Daley Blind is playing with an ICD Christian will make his own choice |
It was nothing personal between Ericksen and Mourinho. Mourniho has said many times how great a player he think Ericksen is, before what happened last week. It was a combination of price tag and where he fit in. It was a business decision, nothing more. |
Daley Blind's ICD went off erroneously in a game once and had to be substituted. He wasn't actually having a heart issue at the time it was determined. On a side note, I thought his name was Danny Blind for years just hearing the announcers say his name, then towards the end of his ManU career I happened to look at lineup sheet and saw "Daley". Dumb Amercian here. |

The knockout stage of the Euro 2020 tournament begins on Saturday. My picks from the heart (Portugal), head (France) and gut (Italy) are all, no surprise, in the knockout stages.
Here are the 16 teams and their match-ups in the first round of the knockouts: Wales v. Denmark Italy v. Austria Netherlands v. Czechia (or Czech Republic, if you must) Belgium v. Portugal Croatia v. Spain France v. Switzerland England v. Germany Sweden v. Ukraine From this round, I'm really looking forward to Belgium/Portugal and England/Germany. Incidentally, if anyone doesn't have subscription TV, a few of the games are shown on Univision (in Spanish, of course) local channel 14.1. Also, there's a free app called PrendeTV that we've been using to stream all the games (they've had all the games except the couple of games that Univision broadcasts, so I think there's relationship between the app and Univision). Again, PrendeTV is in Spanish, but for watching the game who cares. It's a good option if you're away from the TV on game day; or if you can connect your phone to your TV you can just watch it that way. Força Portugal! |
You're not completely wrong- Danny Blind is Daley's father! |
Picks: Denmark Italy Netherlands Belgium Croatia France England Sweden Then: Belgium France England Netherlands Then: France England Then: England |
England is having problem scoring. |
| England sucks. Stop buying into the hype. |
In addition to the 2 you mentioned, I think Italy v Austria could be an entertaining game. Italy has obviously been playing great. Austria has surprised me in the sense that they have shown a willingness to get out into the attack and create...not the park the bus and counter style that I expected to see. I’m hoping we’ll get a fairly wide open game. |
| Okay let’s talk about the elephant in the room...why England, Wales and Scotland...really? Should be one team for all of them. |
After today, there is only one lol |
It has to do with history and not geopolitics https://sites.duke.edu/wcwp/tournament-guides/european-cup-2016-guide/the-united-kingdom-one-nation-four-teams/. Even as Ted Lasso was famously reminded ("how many countries are in this country?") that four national teams are in one actual country, the only time I can remember a UK unified team was during the 2012 London Olympics (which was an exception rather than the rule). Also it is interesting in club football that while Scottish clubs like Glasgow Rangers and Celtic compete in Scotland's own leagues, major Welsh clubs like Cardiff City and Swansea are part of the English footballing pyramid. It's a by-product of history and the fact that football was invented in England and their FA pre-dates the creation of FIFA and UEFA. And as someone wisely noted, we don't have an issue in these championships now after today as England is the only one left standing (likely that will change after Tuesday). |
| Denmark and Italy will win. That’s my Lock the week! |
