Austin just cares about his property value. He didn't do any school volunteer. That tells you what kind of the person he is. "Political or education advocacy experience (public elected offices held and when, as well as unsuccessful campaigns for office and which years; can include PTA or similar experience; do not include political party positions): None" |
| The current BOE is a rubber stamp for the central office of MCPS. Adding another longtime PTA volunteer will not help change things. |
It's true that the current BoE often does what the MCPS central office asks - but not because it's made up of people who volunteered for the PTA. Also, in my opinion, "I have never volunteered for the PTA!" does not qualify a person to serve on the BoE. |
Adding someone who just cares about property values won't help things, well, I suppose it does help those who also only care about property values but it certainly won't help alleviate overcrowding. |
And it's so easy and convenient to just make up sh*t about other people to promote your agenda. If we're on this track, then the same thing can easily be said about the people against him..The folks against him have a desire to devalue the property values of the neighborhoods feeding certain schools in an effort to bring theirs up. See how silly that is? |

NP. Just as the POTUS is not the president of just those states that voted for him, (AHEM) a BoE member needs to be someone who has a demonstrated interest in the well-being of all of the kids in MCPS.
Nothing in Mr. Austin's background, nor his website, nor his various statements to voter education groups, signals that he is interested in the needs of every child in this system. If he's interested in himself, and his kids, and kids like his own, he can get involved at the local PTA level and help kids like his own. But a BoE position? That requires a broader lens. |
Maybe we can just make them an island of their own and section off Chevy Chase, Bethesda, Potomac and Town of of Kensington. Since they have the smarter, better students and more of their buildings have been renovated they really don't need as big of the pot of money but they also need to keep their kids at their schools so they will have to educate their special needs kids with the buildings and programs they have vs. shipping them out to other schools to boost their numbers. |
They both are equally bad. |
Geez. Some people here are just awful. I don't know if it's out of bitterness or just being plain mean. Chill, go get a drink. |
Thats basically what they are asking to do, so lets do it for them. |
You really have convinced yourself to believe this imaginary story. Do you realize how ridiculous your statement above sounds? The sad fact is that there are many of you who really think like this. |
BOE definetly needs new blood. I will vote for Jay Guan. From his website ( www.jayguan4boe.com) and his face book (www.facebook.com/JG4BOE), he has a quite experience with school volunteer and community service. He is an aerospace engineer and a father of a 4-year old son. His humble beginning as an immigrant who came here at 14. He was a FARMs student which taught him much about life and struggles. He champions a "future-ready" education for all students with a stronger STEAM focus, community schools and innovative teaching, including tele- teaching, and has been advocating for greater involvement by the parents in the Clarksburg, Northwes and Seneca Valley highschool redistricting issues. He is endorsed by former President of the Montgomery County Board of Education, Mike Durso, Alan Chung (MCPS had the best school during his tenure) and District 15 State Delegates Dave Fraser-Hildago and Lily Qi. He is respected as an energetic doer, innovator, problem-solver, and someone who gives his all to whatever he believed. He seems a front runner among the 13 At-large candidates. |
You had me until you mentioned his endorsements. He's endorsed by the establishment -- that loses my vote. |
Welll since no one on the current BOE seems to care about property values, then it's time we had at least one person who does! |
