Both Mr. Durso and DR. Chuang were chair of BOE, MCPS had the best school. Do you hope MCPS to slip down? |
Why should she or anyone else on the Board focus on the W schools? These schools and the students who attend them are doing just fine and will continue to do so. The county should focus its policy and funding decisions on expressly favoring schools with poorer students. That’s the only way to even begin to tackle the systematic racism that has caused the current segregation of have and have nots. |
It's the Board of Education, not the Board of Making Sure That People Who Paid Premiums For "Good" Schools Can Sell Their Houses For At Least What They Paid For Them. |
Except that at least some vehement opponents of the district-wide boundary analysis have explicitly stated that they oppose boundary changes because boundary changes would be bad for their property values. In so many words. |
But it's also the Board of Listening to Your Constituents. I'll vote for the person I think will best represent my interests. |
Hey, PP who said
Maybe it actually isn't made-up. Alternatively, maybe Steve Austin doesn't think he's exclusively focused on property values, but people who are exclusively focused on property values think he is. |
Board members represent all county residents, and they have to think about what's best overall, for everyone. |
interests when it comes to education, not property values. This is not a county/city position. It's the board of EDUCATION. |
| Gimme a break on the property values nonsense. The houses in Mr. Austin’s zip code are generally valued at between $600,000 and more than $1,000,000 and have steadily appreciated for years and years. Mr. Austin’s own house, which is on the lower end of properties in that area, is valued at about $20,000 more than what he bought it for in 2017. If a boundary change caused an immediate drop in the value, I think he would be able to recover from that loss over the term of his note, or even during the time period his children are attending the public schools. And, IF the value of the property fell because of a perception that the quality of the schools his children attend has fallen, Mr. Austin could rally the people who claim to be interested in improving all MCPS schools and get to work to improve the schools his children would be attending. At least then he’d have some actual experience doing something in the schools. Maybe he could even learn what it’s like to be an active member of his school’s PTA. |

MCPS has some serious mismanagement issues and things are coming home to roost now with the current recession and slashed tax revenue.
No way I would vote for any incumbent who upvoted any of the garbage that happened the last few years. No way. Or anyone who regurgitates the same stuff. Austin would be a welcomed change and improvement. Oh, and I'm glad he has a real world job, intellectual HP, communication skills, and isn't a chronic liar like some of these other fools. |

I'm waiting for Bad Education II to come out and uncover MCPS BoE + Central Office drama.
Bad Education actually had a better BoE that MCPS currently does. |
No one said "focus" on W schools. But they cannot be ignored forever. So much time and money spent on other schools, and no one begrudges one penny of that, but you cannot ignore the challenges at the Ws forever. |
The schools in Bethesda and Potomac are not being ignored. Good grief. |
Well that’s the MCPS way. Teach to the bottom. This is a really narrow view. It is in everyone’s best interest to keep the school system strong including the W schools. Wootton has some major building issues but I’m glad you think it’s “fine”. |
