How Come BOE Candidate Stephen Austin Won’t Say What His Employment Is??

Anonymous
I’m still figuring out this whole BOE race thing but am curious, why won’t BOE candidate Austin reveal his employment? Even if he doesn’t want to say where he works (which he should by the way), why the secrecy? You would think a candidate running for office would tout their resume to show their experience but he seems to have . . . none. Like, literally none at all. He just says he’s “in finance” which is not really credible, given that he won’t provide more information. Did he work somewhere people would find morally offensive or is it somewhere that people would be underwhelmed by its revelation? To justify this, on his campaign page he’s made vague allegations about someone driving by his house since he started his campaign but there are no police reports or info on anything nefarious that has happened - he seems like the type to make a big deal if it had. Plus, what does that have to do with his employment?

In addition to his general awkward personality, I’m finding this strange and a little skeevy. When asked this question, he has said, “I will reveal where I work after the election.” Isn’t that like saying, “ I will give you my resume after I get the job.” Seriously though, could you imagine a minority getting away with this? I’m an old(er) white woman and I find it rather presumptuous that he thinks he will get elected without being forthcoming about his background.

I don't plan on voting for him but given how heated this race has become, I don't blame him for not disclosing his place of work.

Which of the other candidates have refused to say where they work?

At least he hasn’t been involved in deportation efforts! Or isn’t a crappy teacher at Shady Grove!
He’s said where he’s worked in the past. He’s been harassed. People like you are obsessed with him. I don’t blame him.

I can understand not disclosing the location but he gives no information at all. It’s hard to determine if he is actually employed. And when you look at his donations to his own campaign and his donations when he was fundraising for the lawsuit he filed, he gave very little money. If he’s in finance, that just doesn’t add up to me. Without more specifics I just don’t know what to believe.

This is turning into Trump and his tax returns LOL.

Is he on linkedin?

Poor guy. He really has had to put up with a ton of harassment from the club, hasn't he?

None. Everyone has provided detailed info on their work experience even those with little experience like Osorio. I think he adds to people’s frustration with his candidacy by not sharing this information.

Not on LinkedIn. Try Stephen L. Austin or Stephen Leroy Austin. Nothing.

Maybe he has. We don't know, do we?

He's hardly unique, as a candidate for BoE, in having unflattering things said about him. He does seem to be unique in declining to say where he works, though.

My guess is because he's been smeared (the Seventh State piece written by a supprter of another candidate.. I forget which one.. that didn't mention that bit) and how his wife and kids have been threatend/harrassed online.

My guess it's he's an independent financial advisor, and doesn't want those same people covering his firm's Yelp page with false reviews or contacting his clients.

It's amazing too.. all this over a BOE race. He's not the establishment (Dasgupta got the Apple Ballot endorsement) so some people must really fear him to be going after him like this.

He filed for candidacy in January. He "worked in finance" then too.

Hopefully he will be employed shortly by the MCPS BOE!

That comes with a salary of $25,000 per year. Not quite enough to pay the mortgage in Bethesda or Potomac. So it would be helpful to know where else his money comes/will come from.

So weird. It would be laughable if he weren’t trying to sit on a board that influences the future of children. Shouldn’t we know more about him? The b-ball’s really in his court on this one and its an easy one.
