Based on what you know, would you let your son or daughter play in a lacrosse game?

D1 Coaches aren't likely coming this summer. This coming Wednesday they will decide on extending the dead period until the end of June from its current extension of end of May:

"...The group also committed to make a final decision on an extension of the recruiting dead period through June 30 at the group’s May 13 meeting. The dead period began in March to protect the health, safety and well-being of prospective student-athletes and their families, as well as coaches. NCAA Chief Medical Officer Dr. Brian Hainline addressed the group and discussed the resocialization of sports guidelines released last week to help guide their decision-making..."

Okay, but that has nothing to do with them attending tournaments in late July and August. If the tournaments are on, they will be there.

There's no logic to these types of statements. Do you really think NCAA lacrosse coaches are thinking they are going to shrivel up and die if they go outside to recruit or get on phone to call recruits? If they want to win they better recruit.

Go climb back under the covers and don't come out.

College lax coaches make a good bit of money in the summer at camps and clinics. They need and want that revenue steam. They are not going to give it up. Individual College camps may be cancelled but larger multi school ones are not. They may not be allowed to do any “recruiting” but they will still be teaching lax to high school players and paying attention to the (few) 21s and 22s who they like.

IF they are in a dark period still they will not be able to attend until end of June/early July. Also, their first priority with the additional year for the other years puts less pressure on them seeing new kids. they already have the 21s they really wanted. And their first priority assuming they still have jobs, assistants, teams, and travel budgets, will be putting on their OWN clinics to try and ramp their own program's budgets back up. The priority is not recruting this summer. They have ample kids. THey have the 21s that they want. Their budgets are in limbo and standing in the middle of a Maryland field watching little JOhnny or little Susie ain't at the top the list, virus or no virus.

The majority of lacrosse programs especially D2 and D3 have not completed recruiting for the 2021 class. Only the top 75% of D1 has mostly completed this process leaving a lot of coaches with a lot of work to do. I am sure they will attend events when they are rescheduled. Most will move to late July and August is what I see with the moved dates. This will make it even tougher on the coaches as events overlap. I also predict many teams extending the 21 clubs later into fall and winter events.

There are almost NO 21 club events past July as their club careers are effectively over after that date - unless you count things like HLA, the Summit series, etc, but those are more for college committed classes. But more importantly, Yellow Jackets Rose, Mass Elite, M&D Black, Capital Blue, Skywalkers Blue are all 90 percent done recruitingwise. And the clubs that are running 21 programs into the fall you probably wouldn't want to be seen at - you will either get blamed for trouncing a lesser opponent or you risk losing to a lesser opponent. Trust me, having heard directly from several college coaches, they are done with D1, and the D2's and D3's already have their kids staked out pending the wrap-up of their junior grades. So spotting a diamond in the rough now while possible is highly unlikely. The 22s will go in the Winter/Spring of 21 when the country has a better handle on things and kids have had a chance to actually train before some of the elite events that we have all trucked to on LI and down in FL.

Maybe on the girls side since those are all girls teams, but what about the boys?

D2 and D3 programs have definitely identified their recruits, but are also in more trouble financially. So look for classes of 6-8 to be closer to 4-5. Its always been a numbers game, and it will be even more so once the dust settles.

It seems that many topics and comments seem foreign if not prefaced with identifying if the post refers to boys v girls lacrosse as the process is different in many ways. Here is my take on boys lacrosse for summer/fall. My prediction is that there will be many fall events that 2021 teams will choose to play in. Some D3 coaches have not completed the recruiting but all 2021's should already be on the radar of a coach. The missed summer event may provide a chance to get one last look in the fall. From what I understand of the girls process, there are large events that all the good teams attend. That is not the same on the boys side as event are run by club owners and over the last few years they do not always attend each other's events. AKA no Crabs at Naptown. Under normal times, 2021 teams may not play in the fall of the senior year but these are not normal times. In addition, the showcases like the NXT fall event or the prospect days will be very important this fall. The interesting thing will be if players opt out of football if they are serious about getting recruited for lacrosse. I think it would be tough to balance both.

Not sure on the boys side and will defer to smarter more experienced minds but on the girls side, there simply are no 21 events with the canceled IWLCA events - no offense to CSE or other tournament companies. And more importantly, the clubs themselves have no fields to train or anything else at this time and are instead focusing on the 22s coming into their own recruiting windows (assuming that they don't move their recruiting date to 1/1/21 from the current 9/1/20), 23s and then the 24s. Thats it. Really stinks for the 21s still left but there's just not a meaningful mechanism.

+1 to all of the above

I disagree. I think coaches will create the "meaningful mechanism." There are two primary reasons. 1) Many coaches, D1 to D3, still have spots on their rosters that they need to fill and they likely will be losing some commits because of family economic reasons. 2) Most coaches lost significant revenue from recruiting camps they had planned and they will want to make that up.

There where 400 plus 21 verbal commits before the corona virus hit the USA.
