First, it's actually ridiculous you think it's ridiculous. You don't have to be an aerodynamics engineer to figure out a 5 lb object covering appx 80% of a surface area doesn't disrupt airflow. Second, if you are a parent not washing your kid's gear regularly then you should look in the mirror. That awful smell coming out of the gear bag is a clue. How about just keeping a spray bottle of tilex with bleach handy. And to the pp, in the state of MD there are no deaths attributed to those under the age of 18 so it's not that it's not as dangerous, it's statistically not dangerous. And that's not only in MD but across the country. If you are so worried about the chance of someone playing or practicing or living in the world and dying from contraction, you should safely stay inside until a vaccine becomes available at your neighborhood CVS. So much anger? The quarantine clearly has effected your psyche. Everyone knows people don't sterilize gear after each and every practice and game. Yes, this will need to change. But to definitively state that girls are at more risk than boys is, as I said, RIDICULOUS. It's not anger, it's responding to stupidity. Neither girls or boys are statistically at risk. Here's the link to age related deaths in MD https://coronavirus.maryland.gov/ Do you have #’s on how many they infected? I am so glad you asked. The current overall infection rate is about 1.0 This means an infected person might pass on the infection to 1 other person IF the 2 people are in close contact for more than 10 minutes continuously AND the infected person forcibly dispels the virus while in close contact AND the other person takes the virus into their internal system About 1800 kids under the age of 18 have tested positive. Most likely, the number is closer to 10k at this point from other studies done across the country. But given the necessary conditions of time and distance to spread the infection and the overwhelming number of deaths occurring in nursing and assisted living situations, I'd say they have probably cross infected a very small number of people. I get it, you are scared. Please stay home and let the rest of us go back to work and lead our lives. DP. Sure I will stay home. But likely you will be doing so as well. Most tournaments CANCELLED. Next year is sketchy. Sorry you put so much emotion into a stupid sport for kids. We're focussing on academics, which is more of a sure thing for college admissions. You people are crazy. |
| Shhhh don’t tell her that they have not cancelled the tournaments. |
Yet. |
Most of my daughter's tournaments have been cancelled. |
DP. Sigh. You are missing the whole side of the barn that is right there in front of your face. Decisions are being made not only because of kid safety but also of associated family safety. It is the concept of community spread. Decision makers like Hogan and Northam and Bowser and Cuomo are thinking about COMMUNITY SPREAD when they are making their state-wide rules. I am sure that once they deem it appropriate, they will allow sports activities to resume. Until then you really need to think about why you're being so aggressive about this that you're missing the big picture. That says way more about you than anything else. And, yes, you sound -very- angry. |
You obviously have not ever been to any high level girls games. There is a lot of close-in play in girls games. In many cases I think the girls play much closer than the boys. I make this observation as a parent who has watched a lot of high level boys and girls games over the past 15 years. |
Not an issue as my son does not plan to attend any of her events. |
They will be cancelled. |
| Wow, after reading through this thread, I must say that I am shocked at the number of ostriches here. I know lax people are usually a bit cray cray, but this is beyond what I ever expected. Yikes. |
From what I can tell, they haven't been very successful. Isn't this area's number worse than everywhere else except NY/NJ? |
We're definitely on par. For some insight as to why, go back and read the posts (many of them yours?) about how people want games to continue. That kind of lax behavior (pun intended) is what has gotten us to that point. Until people take the SAH order seriously we will still have community spread and it endangers us all. Do your part and stay at home. As hard as it is to believe, it isn't all about you. Stop being so hysterical about wanting to play this summer. The faster the virus wanes (SAT word alert! look it up!) the faster we get back to normal. The only way the pandemic will begin to diminish is if we take aggressive steps to stop it in its tracks. But if we keep on keeping on, like many people are doing, we're just prolonging the agony. Be a good sport so your sport can continue to be good to you! |
| Don’t worry mom plenty of chances to play outside of blue states. NC and FL will host events this summer |
Sigh. I'm fine with YOU playing. In fact I'm all for it because then you will stop whining about it. The problem for me is that you will come back and be around my kid/s. That isn't okay with me. We don't want the germs that you will be carrying with you.

Travel to FL for games with no coaches.
|
| They will get film and coaches will be there in August |
