Has anyone heard anything about refunds from Calleva?

Anonymous
Calleva is not the best camp in terms of safety, given the pandemic I would not send my kids.

There communication is awful.

They said their would be stand up paddle boarding. I assume that is on the water

Right they did, where would that happen though? Does the school have a pool? Lake?

They have a pond on the property where they do paddle boarding and other water activities (last summer, according to DC at least).

My 6 year old was registered for August in Maryland. Looks like the small group option is only for 8-12 year old Maryland residents only. Surely the have to refund me, right?

Nope

Dispute it with your credit card.

They're cancelling all the registrations and giving refunds except for the deposit - it says on their website that they'll be emailing this information on June 12th. Then, if interested, you can register for any small group programs they're offering in August using your deposit credit as partial payment, otherwise the credit can be used in 2021. By August the restrictions on out-of-state campers might change. Also, the VA location takes out-of-state campers for the new small groups. So yes, they'll refund you all but the deposit as they've previously told you.

They aren't modifying what you already registered for - they're cancelling everything and starting from scratch (new registrations, etc.)

Also- they are keeping the deposit only as credit for next year. Compare with Valley Mill, which is keeping 100% of tuition as credit for next year even though DC kids will not be able to attend (and they will have revenue coming in from MD kids). I literally have over $3k tied up at VMC for 2 kids.

I think this is ridiculous. A deposit is so YOU don't walk away from your commitment. They can't keep their commitment, but they want YOUR money?
Anonymous
Exactly. They are hijacking the deposit for their own cash flow needs.

Well you are lucky, as I asked and was told that I could choose among the options they outlined in their policy.

Right. “Some anonymous rando on DCUM claimed she got a full refund and I want mine too!” That’ll show them.

You realize you are "some anonymous rando" right? - I'm not advising this because I have anything to gain, clearly I am wasting my time trying to help a bunch of total clowns who cannot fix this for themselves. I'm done.
