Can someone please provide evidence for the claim that the schools are bad?!
This is NOT Gaithersburg HS. This is Rachel Carson ES, Lakelands Park MS, and QOHS. I’m honestly confused because all the data show these are strong schools. Rachel Carson is ranked higher than several Bethesda ES’s. |
Exactly. I think the Kentlands bashers likely have never been here. |
Have you ever lived in Bethesda? It's the worst of everything. Traffic, snobby awful people, shit shack badly built houses...most have electrical wiring that kill people... why would you live in Bethesda? P.S. If you live in a shit shack in Bethesda... call an electrician to ensure your wiring is not a death trap. |
There are very few good middle school in the world and Lakelands is the best middle school by far. Do everything you can to keep the principal. |
Well, at least we live INSIDE the beltway, and we have a real downtown with shops and restaurants people actually want to patronize. Let’s be real, most people would choose Bethesda over Kentlands any day of the week! |
I have been there *many* times. I hate HOAs, and Kentland HOA is pretty restrictive. If I want to paint my door red or get any reasonable colored/style roof, I should be able to do that, but their HOA is pretty restrictive in terms of things like roof material and color. Plus, I dislike how close the houses are to each other (I have lived in these types of houses all my life), and I certainly think it's ridiculous to have a detached garage for that price point. |
I don't live in Bethesda or any W cluster, but I have to laugh at this. What makes Lakeland MS the *best* MS? |
Not surprised your life revolves around buying stuff not spending time with loved ones. Most people don't want to live in city IRS or in congested areas. |
Why do you care about being inside the beltway? I've lived in the DMV for 13 years and am honestly confused by this. It seems pretty arbitrary. I do admit Kentlands downtown has its issues, but Kimco is in the middle of a huge renovation that will bring a lot more restaurants and shops. Even now, we have more than most people think. That part of the community will only get better. As for the HOA, it's not as restrictive as people are making it out to be. My neighbor painted her door yellow and no one cared. The HOA publishes all the requests it gets in the Lakelands and Kentlands newspapers and it seems 98% of them get approved. I personally think Bethesda--outside the Bethesda Row area--looks pretty rundown. The traffic is also a nightmare there. I like being able to always find a parking spot. |
Lakelands Park is a strong MS (in the top 5% in the country and top 15% in the DMV). I don't know that I'd call it the best, but it's almost impossible to determine the best MS. |
But plenty of people who are not you don't think it's ridiculous. I wouldn't want to live in Kentlands either (not that I could afford it anyway), but I think that there's a meaningful difference between "I don't want to live in Kentlands, but I understand that other people do" and "Kentlands is horrible, and nobody wants to live there". |
Yeah, I don't understand the horror people seem to have over the detached garage. We walk literally 10 steps from our house to the garage. We live in a pretty temperate climate. I'd understand if it was Minnesota, but in Maryland it's really not a big deal. |

Context people. Every so often a thread will come up about why houses aren't selling in the Kentlands. This isn't the first one.
Several posters will respond giving reasons why they wouldn't buy there or why when they looked they decided against the houses. These are the same reasons EVERY SINGLE TIME. Too far out, OK but not great schools, weird HOA, detached garages, overpriced. Rinse, repeat, again and again. A grumpy Kenlands/Lakelands residents will then start insisting that none of the reasons are valid because she doesn't care about a detached garage. Well, it does not matter my dear what you think. What matters is what the majority of other buyers think. The houses are not selling and sitting a long time because of all the REASONS that other potential buyers listed. |
But houses are not sitting, and people are buying them. It's just some grumpy "inside the beltway" people who want to think there is something horrible is going on outside the beltway to feel better about taking 20 minutes to go 5 street lights away. |
| I just looked on Zillow and there are quite a few houses there that have been sitting for months. They look nice so it appears to be the area not the individual houses. I looked up a few that had sold and some had been on for months, listed and delisted for even more time, and several price drops. |
