What is going on with Lakelands and Kentlands?

QO scored pretty badly on the MD report card and only received a 66% while NW scored one point higher at 67%. Since all the schools are scored you can't count on inching up because BCC, Whitman and others didn't report scores so the bad score plus more competition will push you way farther back in the rankings.

If you want to boost QO, you need tp change your talking point as your ranking has just tanked. Start parroting how rankings don't matter.

That's cute. QO does poorly a lot because minority and poor students tend to do terrible on standardized tests because they are largely ESOL students. The diversity in QO isn't the neighborhoods(Kentlands and Lakelands and Darnestown are all around 80% white). Part of the district feeds from the other part of Gaithersburg and that tends to be the diversity. Most kids from educated families are just as good students as Whitman or churchill kids.

Let's state the fact: QO is mediocre. It is far below Whitman, Wootton and Churchill. And WJ and BCC.

All of these schools, except Wooton, aren't as good as Baltimore City POLY though, so...

Thanks for the joke. I needed a good laugh tonight

LOL. That school is just like NW- scored high for its reputation, but very violent with fights and robberies. Stats don't lie, but stats sure aren't everything. Doubt a single person on this thread would send their DC to Baltimore Poly.

Sorry. These are stats from the MD Report Card site:

Baltimore City POLY scores

http://reportcard.msde.maryland.gov/Graphs/#/Repor...eportCardSchool/3/17/6/30/0403

Asian: 90% math, 90% ela
Black / AA: 72% math, 80% ela
Hispanic: 69.6% math, 91.3% ela
White: 92.9% math, 95.7% ela

Find me another school with scores like that, let alone with such a diverse population. For being “dangerous with fights” these kids are killing it (npi) on these test scores. Says a lot about the lack of quality of a lot of MoCo schools that hardly any of these kids come from homes worth $300k, let alone $1M.

I think the new Home Goods store taking Kmart's place will do well. It's supposed to be a Home Goods on steroids

LOL. While a discount TJMAX Home Goods store is a step up from KMart, it isn't exactly painting the picture of an appealing area to live. The area is very frumpy -Michaels, Ross Dress for Less, now TJMAX Home Goods -where is the Payless Shoes or As Seen On TV store? I guess those are coming in the next upgrade.

Lol

DC has a micheals and a Ross and an Applebee's and the live tgrircTarget.

And a lot of interesting restaurants and bars, a Metro station and historic rowhomes within 3 blocks. Please stop. The only faux town centers in the area with anything interesting going on are The Wharf, Mosaic and Pike and Rose. Those are tolerable and at least make an attempt at not being soul sucking. Everything else is bleh.

Don’t forget Cathedral Commons, a bit of suburban vibe, meh-bleh faux town center on Wisconsin Ave.

Yeah, it’s not as though everything in DC is interesting. Nor is everything in Kentlands boring. We have some great sushi, taco, and Colombian places. The pho and bubble tea places are also really good. We also have spagnvola, which National Geographic rated as one of the best chocolate places in the world.

I think a lot of the people bashing Kentlands have only been to the area with Giant. That’s really not a good representation of what Kentlands is.

The Ross Dress place isn’t there anymore. The only place that is sort of low class that’s left is the Five Below. Everything else is gone and Kimco has been putting in higher end places like Kenaki Sushi and the Cinepolis.

Anonymous wrote:I'm also curious , where exactly is this river for kayaking and hiking that is right near the Kentlands? You can't mean the Potomac River because that is pretty far south. If you want to paddle on the Potomac you are better off living in Potomac, Rockville, DC or Poolesville not the Kentlands.

If you mean the man made mini lake at RIO with the foot paddle ducky boats -well hmm. Even then, this is closer to Crown and the Rio not the Kentlands.

I don't live in the Kentlands but Seneca Creek State Park is near there. Less than 3 miles.

So you can kayak down a muddy creek? So jealous.

Some people actually kayak-commute all the way to their DC offices.

If you kayak across the river on the rare occasion the Prez’s bone spurs allow him to play golf, you can ride downtown in a secret service boat.

He tried to have Riley's Lock closed, but it didn't work.

NP here.

I am actually looking to buy in Kentlands. I am okay with a restrictive HOA (grew up with one, own in one now) because I like order. And I like services. So if the HOA has services (does it include the tennis courts? the pool?) I would really like to know.

My big issue isn't that everyone knows every one else's business (I have that now) or schools (QO is fine-- we're moving from FFX). My question is about raising kids there.

I love decorating for Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and want a neighborhood that also decorates. I want my kids to have a Stars Hollow feel.

On the other hand, some have mentioned the sense of entitlement (which, let's be honest, in the DMV, it's going to happen regardless). My question is do your kids leave the house and invite friends over? Do you have to schedule play dates, or is it more of a free range thing? Do you feel safe letting your kid walk to Whole Foods (I cringe as I am typing this) by themselves? Are the walks around the lakes safe? Is there bullying issues in the schools?

Also-- do you like the little league there? Is there a dance school or music school nearby? Do you feel safe letting your kids walk home from school by themselves?

I ask because I am seriously looking into moving there and hope that this doesn't open up to a lot of /s posts.
