I hear all sorts of odd noises in my house. It's easy to attribute them to all sorts of things, but I think it's because it's an old house, which creaks and groans, things are loose, sound travels in strange ways, and it's all so very noticeable when the house is quiet.
I will say that I loathed my previous house for some inexplicable reason. The previous owners lived there for 25 years, but in the end divorced, which is why they were selling. The place just had bad kharma, which I felt and so did my DH the entire time we lived there. We moved to another old house that a very nice couple lived in for a half-century, and all the bad kharma feelings are gone! We did burn sage in our old house because a friend who believed in ghosts told me to do it, but I don't think that did anything -- I still hated that house! I think there's some truth somewhere in this thread, but superstition and imagination are playing a big role here, even though it's fun to read! |
I lived in an old military hospital, converted to military barracks. It was definitely haunted. You could feel the strongest presence in what was the operating room and morgue. |
My last house definitely had a presence. It was an older home that only had two families in it before us. 1st was there for only a couple of years and the 2nd family had the house for over 50 years, rIsed 7 kids and had grand kids living there as well. Anyway, I felt like the man was still there as different house guests saw him. I never saw him, but I would hear things and one time I smelled the strongest odor of dirty feet. That time my dog got really agitated. I guess my ghost story is pretty dull in retrospect.
I have a better one from my childhood. One our houses (we moved often) had a ghost that actually threw things across a room, one day I was in the den and books tumbled off a bookshelf. That scared me and I stopped going into that room. This was the late 60s and my parents thought it would be fun to have a seance during a party, the next day my dads car wouldn't start and a couple of other things happened that I cannot recall as I was only about 5 at the time. The car not starting and the books falling off the shelf just stuck in my memory. |
My mom's really into feng shui. I'm not convinced but, it can't hurt to rearrange some furniture and paint some walls when you have that inexplicable feeling of something not being right in a home. |
I grew up in Louisville, KY. There was this old, abandoned hospital which was initially a Tuberculosis hospital and then turned Mental Health institution way back in the 40s. It's been abandoned for a long time.
For fun (!) teen agers used to go up to the abandoned hospital and horse around - it is up on a big hill, surrounded by woods. It was a popular dare for us high schoolers to see if anyone could last all night up there. We would see things, specifically like a woman, who would appear randomly in the hallways, standing or sitting in a chair. We thought it was cool. For fun, we would slide down the chute that they sent dead bodies down (maybe a 45 degree angle) into the basement. Yeah - I know. Stupid teenagers. It was so dark, even in broad daylight, you had to have a bunch of flashlights. We'd go up on the roof and look out over the city. We always had to be mindful of cops, cause they would occasionally get word that teenagers were "up at the old hospital again". My dad would find flashlights in my room or the car, and be like - where did all these flashlights come from, and why the fuck do you need so many?! So a couple of years ago, I was visiting my dad (still in KY) and for some reason we started talking about my teenage years. I confessed to him about my adventures as a teenager, galavanting around Old Waverly Place. Low and behold - he was surprised as hell, because apparently some couple bought the place, and makes a killing on haunted tours at Halloween. They have a website and everything. This was all news to me. Us a kid, it was just an old, run down place to roam around and "play with ghosts" as we liked to say. http://therealwaverlyhills.com/newsite/ There's a picture on this website, of the exact woman we used to see. When I was at my day's he pulled up the website for me and as soon as I saw that picture, I flew back in my chair and threw his iPad out of lap (he was not happy about that, haha). That is the SAME woman we used to see. And we saw other stuff too. At the time, we teenagers thought maybe it was a play of light, or shadows... Scariest places on Earth (the tv show) went there, but couldn't last all night. They left in the middle of the night (only few of such places have they ever left in the middle of the night). I can't believe we slid down the incinerator shoot. And on the tour they give, they only take people to a certain part of the hospital. We went all over. For years. I could tell those people some stories and give a tour of a lifetime. You come inside that hospital with me, and it will make any non-believe in ghosts do a 180, I promise. When we were there, all the old equipment, rusty bed frames, old medical equipment, chairs, were all there...if on,y we had cell phones back then to take pics, lol. |
Awesome! |
22:41 coolstory. curious if you're a man or woman. I'm trying hard to think if I'd have gone and dive something like that as a teen....not really sure.maybe, but prob not. |
^^ sorry, should have read "when I was at my dad's house a couple years ago" |
I'm a woman. I was 16-17 at the time. Me and two other girl friends would go with our boyfriends and a few other guys. No way would we have ever gone without "the guys". |

Which lady did you see? There are many pictures on that website. |
Get an exorcism done!

Don't mean to resurrect such an old thread, but the one up now are super boring (looking at you "just ate Wendy's!"). Any updates OP? Anyone else have a ghost story to share? |
In our previous house, we could hear someone walking across the bedroom carpet at night and then we would feel them sit on the bed. We both experienced this separately and mentioned it to each other. Extremely freaky. It's never happened in our current house. |
Is that why you moved? |
