If it came down to Hogan vs Jealous in General Election who would you vote for?

Anonymous
We are also Republican and voted for Hogan. We’d like to continue voting for him because he is pro-business, however education is important to us. We are not happy to hear that money would leave MoCo and HoCo from the Kiernan commission report. We also think Ben Jealous is a crazy nut job who’d raise taxes sky high. We own 8 acres in MoCo and we’d pick up and leave for VA if Jealous became Governor because we don’t want to pay for universal pre-school, climate change and free college. This is not DC, this county does not have 2 Billion in reserves. Ben Jealous’s race/ethnic heritage does not matter as we are an interracial family. This county is running in the negative for growth. We are going to vote for Maladeno. I saw someone mentioned earlier about changing party lines, is that really necessary to vote for Maladeno? We’d like to keep our Republican tag. Does anyone have a link or info about voting across party lines in MD? Thank you.

Um.

You should have changed your party registration from R to D months ago, and then you should have voted for Madaleno days ago.

Tax the rich!

+100!!!!

Tax the sh!t out of them!!!!!!

Tax the rich? Not sure what the Jealous definition of rich is, but I bet anyone with a HHI of $200K and up will be screwed. Around here thats a lot of people. How else are we going to pay for free pre-k and college?

$200k+ is rich and Ia glad Jealous will tax them more heavily. It is needed to provide benefits and programs to those left behind by the current system. This will particularly help POC who face systemic discrimination, but poor whites will benefit too.

200K around here is not rich and you can be sure that a large number of those families who will be taxed will move the eff out of the state leaving the poor people behind. Good riddance.

Of course that is rich, even around here. You live a very privileged existence if you think it isn't. We shouldn't let the haves (who are almost exclusively white) prevent proper redistributive justice from being implemented with their blackmail threats about leaving. We will no longer be kept down.

Is that what it's called now?

I somehow think, PP, that you are being "kept down" not from a lack of "redistributive justice" but from an inability to find two brain cells to rub together.

Yes, that is what I would call it. More and more wealth and power are concentrated in the hands of the few, and those few are overwhelmingly white. A true progressive in the Sanders mold, like Jealous, understands the inherent injustice in the current system. He recognizes that strong efforts to transfer money and power from the current elite few to the masses is necessary to create a fair and just society. Much of this can be done through tax policy, be he will push for many other measures to push for a more equal society.

PP, he's going to be governor of Maryland, not emperor of America.

If I were feeling paranoid, I might think that your post was a disinformation campaign to get people to vote for Hogan.

+1 There is a troll on this Board who posts racist offensive stuff in the guise of a supporter of Democratic candidates. Maybe Jeff can out him.

There have been some racist posts, but there is nothing racist about the above.

It is hard to argue that there isn't substantial income inequality and to a very large extent it breaks down along race. Of course what should be done about it is very much open to debate and there are plenty of reasons to criticize the solutions proposed above -- but that doesn't make it racist.

Someone arguing for greater steps to decrease income inequality -- through tax policy and beyond -- is very much in the keeping with the more liberal elements in the Democratic party today, such as Sanders, Warren, the woman from the Bronx who just won, etc.

Agree or disagree, but such thought is entering the mainstream of American politics right now.

Democrat here. Will be holding my nose and voting for Hogan, my first-ever vote for a Republican. Jealous is too liberal for me, and if Elrich is also elected, it’ll be a bad combination. I would have happily voted for Baker.

You guys give Elrich too much credit. Most of the Council has sidelined him. I don’t expect it to be much different if he’s CE.

Do you know what the Montgomery County executive is responsible for, vs. what the Montgomery County council is responsible for? Also, do you know what the likely members of the upcoming county council (Rice, Katz, Navarro, Hucker, Friedson, Riemer, Albornoz, Jawando, Glass) think of Marc Elrich?

This is the second time you posted this, and I went back and read literally every post trying to figure out which one you're referring to, and I can't find it.

Then I started thinking maybe it's just you gaslighting everyone else. So cite the post, or drop it.

What has Hogan done for Maryland? Where are the new businesses, transportation initiatives, and stellar education? Baltimore City is still a mess, and MOCO schools are overcrowded. I'm still waiting for people to list all the reasons why Hogan has been a good governor. Please post a list of achievements.

His only accomplishment is eliminating spring break across the state.

Hilarious all of the limousine liberals who are ready to uproot their lives and children if they have to pay one dime more in taxes. We see you.

Liberal here and I agree.

I live in Baltimore County and was a Kamentz supporter before his unexpected death. Jealous is just too far left for me. I didn’t vote for Hogan last time, but I may. Or I may not vote for either.
