If it came down to Hogan vs Jealous in General Election who would you vote for?

The same folks voting for Hogan will be the same ones bashing him if he wins; Politics.

Tax the rich!

+100!!!!

Tax the sh!t out of them!!!!!!

Tax the rich? Not sure what the Jealous definition of rich is, but I bet anyone with a HHI of $200K and up will be screwed. Around here thats a lot of people. How else are we going to pay for free pre-k and college?

$200k+ is rich and Ia glad Jealous will tax them more heavily. It is needed to provide benefits and programs to those left behind by the current system. This will particularly help POC who face systemic discrimination, but poor whites will benefit too.

200K around here is not rich and you can be sure that a large number of those families who will be taxed will move the eff out of the state leaving the poor people behind. Good riddance.

I think this is what will happen too. It’s just not that hard to move across the border to DC or VA.

How do you feel about Jealous wanting to divert state education $ from MoCo and HoCo?

This isnt getting talking about enough.

THe Kirwin commision could cut state funding to Moco by as much as 68% with a mandate to make that up locally. Insane.

Can you share links with this information? I haven't seen much detail on how the Kirwan commission would impact funding for MOCO and HOCO schools. If this is true, then this needs to be publicized more.

Of course that is rich, even around here. You live a very privileged existence if you think it isn't. We shouldn't let the haves (who are almost exclusively white) prevent proper redistributive justice from being implemented with their blackmail threats about leaving. We will no longer be kept down.

Is that what it's called now?

I somehow think, PP, that you are being "kept down" not from a lack of "redistributive justice" but from an inability to find two brain cells to rub together.

I agree it has not been publicized enough! I heard about it from a neighbor and she sent me this:

http://www.theseventhstate.com/?p=11039

DH thought he saw something in the Post about it a while back too. It is a bit baffling to me that MCEA endorsed Jealous in the primary....

Hmmm. We don’t make that much but I’d say 200k is comfortable, probably even “upper middle” class around here, but rich? I suppose a lot of it depends on your expenses- if you’re childless, student-loan free, and don’t have significant medical expenses, you would have a fair amount of money to play with. But a couple kids in daycare and even an average mortgage will eat a lot of that up real quick.

I’m a Dem who didn’t vote for Hogan the first time around and haven’t agreed with everything he’s done, but will keep an open mind during this election. As Republicans go he’s not that bad (Bob Erlich on the other hand I was ready to show the door). I think there’s something to be said by having a more balanced government- when one party controls everything things can get a bit out of hand sometimes.

With housing prices in MOCO or Howard County plus daycare expenses, for a 2 children familiy, 200K is not rich. Believe me. It's better than other families, yes, but I guarantee that a big chunk of families making in that range will have second thoughts about living here if they continue to see their hard earned money go to taxes with little benefit to them (ex. no improvements to overcrowded schools).

I will vote for Hogan. I have no interest living under the Castro (Jealous) regime. I'm a moderate and Jealous is way too liberal for my liking. Maryland needs balance, but it looks like Jealous is ready to make us all commit financial suicide. If Jealous gets elected, then I would feel like I was a captive at Jones' Temple being forced to drink the Kool-Aid. Those of us with means will relocate before we subjugate ourselves to the madness that will occur if Jealous becomes our governor.

Jealous will be terrible for MoCo, and I'm no Hogan fan.
