Elizabeth Holmes, CEO of Theranos, finally charged

She won’t do time after the years of appeals are exhausted.

My friends and I played “could she pass the brunette test” growing up. Sooo many blonde women with average to unattractive faces, but they pass as attractive (ish) because of their dyed locks. If you pass the brunette test, you’d still be considered pretty with brown hair. Holmes is a perfect example of someone who would not pass the test.

Hells yes!! I hope she’s remanded straight to prison. Her fraudulent company could have harmed untold millions with false medical promises

She was found GUILTY on four charges. Each charge has a penalty of up to 20 years in prison. That’s 80 years the judge could sentence her to.

Will the judge cut her slack because she has an infant?

Nope. The kid is old enough to bottle feed and she obviously rushed to have it as a sympathy tactic. Didn’t work. That’s the trouble with defrauding everyone under the sun out of $495 million.

And? She won’t do time during her appeals. Those may be successful. If anything she do 6 mos at club fed. All of you licking your chops at her demise are going to be sorely disappointed. She’s not going to lose her place in society. After her eventual public rehab on the View and multi-million dollar book deal she’s going to be better off than ever.

I bet you thought she wouldn't be guilty either. She'll serve time in federal lock-up while her lawyers run out her appeals. Standard practice. And she already lost her place in society. Sorry your fraud idol is a convicted felon.

Not my idol at all. Just know how the system works for the privileged. I actually hope you’re right.

As a former prosecutor and defense attorney, I’ve had my share of disappointments with juries. I have to say 2021 was a year that reaffirmed my faith in the jury system - the exception being the Rittenhouse trial, but I can see how they reasoned to a not guilty and don’t feel it was a miscarriage of justice, just disappointing.

Holmes was a cheat from the word go. I hope she’s in prison long enough that her child stands a chance of learning some decent values and doesn’t have to spend it’s early years with a narcissistic mother - that type of mother wreaks terrible psychological damage on a child.

In federal court the sentence will almost certainly be concurrent on all charges, so at most 20 years but I’m betting she gets around 10.

Didn't the "Pharma Bro" dork get 7 years in federal prison? What he did was PEANUTS compared to Liz Holmes's scam. She should get 20 years.

For context, Madoff got life. Detroit mayor Kwame Kilpatrick and his contractor buddy got over 20 years each for about $50M in fraud, served about 8 years. Sholam Weiss was supposed to get life for $450M fraud, served about 20. Boy band creep Lou Pearlman for 25 years for a $300M fraud, died in prison. Jeffrey Skilling of Enron was sentenced to 24, served about 12 years. Marc Dreier a "mini Madoff" got 20 years, he'll serve 16 or 17.

Gotta admit that I hope so.

The prosecution of Elizabeth Holmes is warranted, but I just can't get over the sexism.

It’s sexist to hold a fraudulent CEO to account now?

I agree. The level of vitriol and public fascination was much greater because she’s a woman.
Glad she was found guilty, but still…
