You did it to yourself, Alexandria.

I really, really hope so! I haven't looked at the latest numbers but the margin for the lead in this case is so slim that it doesn't seem like there is consensus. I haven't heard any names being bounced around, though. We really do need an alternative.

Thanks final is Wilson 53, Silberberg 47. That's not a landslide but it's not that slim a margin either.

Oops autocorrect. The final, not thanks final.

I think it really depends on what else gets released for the foia request after the Potomac Yards contract award is done. If there is damning stuff in there, it could throw things into flux. If it’s just more inconclusive info (ie more vague emails back and forth from this Spring rather than concrete stuff from 2017) I don’t think there is much chance a viable third party candidate will happen.

There are 7 members of Alexandria city council, including the Mayor. As of now, 4 are out. If the Potomac Yards news gets bad enough, watch the new insurgent-majority on the council distance themselves from the Mayor. The Potomac Yards issues, the condition of the schools, and the combination of development and tax issues do not promise an easy term for the Mayor.

I’m in West Alexandria and she by far has the most signs out in my hood. Also, she was at my polling station today. So we apparently love her out in this neck of the woods!

I certainly don’t mind a council candidate actually showing up in my neighborhood. We don’t get that much out here.

I grew up and live on the west end too, so I get it. But Del Pepper stands for very little and will do close to nothing to move this city ahead. We need young/fresh blood in this city.

Plus one.

Time for her and Doctor Pepper to move to Goodwin House.

Obviously, I mean that’s the only reason I spend time with my family outside of my home.

I guess but unfortunately for those kids it didn't really look like that close of a relationship if you know what I mean.

Wow, you need help and perspective....if you know what I mean. Take a look at how gracious Mayor Silberberg has been and learn something from that.

So Siberbergs gracious. I wondered what her forte is. It certainly isn't governance.

+1. Really surprised she got another term.

Not a huge Wilson fan here but dude, if you judged me on how my kid and I interacted in public, I’d be hosed. Yesterday she sneezed in my mouth then jammed a potato chip in my nose and wiped her boogers on my shoulder. I mean, she’s a toddler but still.

Ha! Lovely! I get it, I really do. We've all been there! But these are elementary school kids so a different story. They're nice kids but you could tell from the way Wilson was interacting with them that this wasn't his normal thing. Anyway, I guess we'll have to lump it. This, too, shall pass. Hopefully it will pass quickly and he won't cause too much damage!

Come on, now. His kids could have been nervous or anxious because it was a big day for their dad. You clearly don’t like the mayor elect, but leave his family out of it. That’s not kind.

I’m also surprised/disappointed Del Pepper won. For folks that were interested in more representation from the West End, Dak Hardwick was a much better choice.

I think she won because, despite all the conversation it’s generated here and on my social media, primaries are low turnout. Voters skew older, and that’s emphasized further in low turnout elections.

I suspect that for a large majority of senior citizens who voted, they may have split between Wilson and Silberberg, but they ALL made Del one of their 6 votes.

Oh well, she’ll no doubt do what she’s been doing—follow the lead of other council members.

Reading comprehension, please! The dad was the problem. The kids were fine. Looked like normal kids. Their dad obviously doesn't interact with them much and most of the time was looking at them like they were aliens. Poor kids.

For those speculating/hoping for some new “something” to happen for November, I think that is highly, highly unlikely. I’m not saying this as a taunt, but as a reality check.

The filing deadline in any capacity, Democrat, Republican, or Independent, was Tuesday at 7pm. No one has filed for mayor.

That means the only name on the ballot for mayor will be Justin Wilson. The other option is a write in. You may recall Bill Euille ran a highly organized and well-funded write-in campaign after Silberberg won in the primary 3 years ago. He got votes, but wasn’t even close.

Alexandria is a deeply Democratic town. As in many towns, there are fewer voters for local elections and/or primaries than state/national elections. In November, every Democrat that didn’t vote in the primary is going to be there to vote for Congress and Senate, hoping to be part of the Blue Wave against Trump. Those folks are going to vote for the people clearly identified as Democrats for City Council and Mayor on the sample ballots that will be handed out to them.

There are 2 Republicans and 1 Independent that did meet the filing deadline for City Council. It is possible, I suppose, that one of them might get enough votes, but they are facing an uphill battle, for the reasons I stated above.

For those who did not have their candidates win (I certainly didn’t get all of my picks for Council) I suggest that the best use of your time now is to get to know the incoming Council members, and yes, Justin Wilson. I truly believe that all of them are committed to public service and the well-being of Alexandria.

Yes, but you are still bringing his family into the conversation. It’s a cheap shot. It’s unnecessary. Frankly, it makes you sound petty, bitter, and rude. Stick to the issues and find a way to rise above nastiness.

He purposefully brought his children to the polling place. That does leave his interactions with his children open to comments about his behavior with them. Hardly a cheap shot. You can't excuse everything he does.

+1.

And for those interested, he made some off the cuff comment about being an "absent dad" at his Live Oak launch. It went over like a lead balloon.

Show he's tone deaf as well as a liar. Who in Del Ray makes jokes about being a bad parent?

This is all for Justin.

No,its order of finish in the general, not the primary that determines vice mayor.

Smedberg, Hardwick, Ray and Feely all lost. Opposite positions on the issues. The four of them have a couple of things in common though.
