I really, really hope so!  I haven't looked at the latest numbers but the margin for the lead in this case is so slim that it doesn't seem like there is consensus.  I haven't heard any names being bounced around, though.  We really do need an alternative.[/quote]

I think it really depends on what else gets released for the foia request after the Potomac Yards contract award is done. If there is damning stuff in there, it could throw things into flux. If it’s just more inconclusive info (ie more vague emails back and forth from this Spring rather than concrete stuff from 2017) I don’t think there is much chance a viable third party candidate will happen. There are 7 members of Alexandria city council, including the Mayor.  As of now, 4 are out.  If the Potomac Yards news gets bad enough, watch the new insurgent-majority on the council distance themselves from the Mayor.  The Potomac Yards issues, the condition of the schools, and the combination of development and tax issues do not promise an easy term for the Mayor.
