How can anyone believe in god when there's so much evil in the world?

God owes you no "evidence". Don't you understand that? You are nothing compared to God.

Then Jesus told him, "Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed."
John 20:29

I didn't ask "him" for evidence.

I asked you for evidence.

I accepted Jesus into my heart. I have no idols (money, power, sex, looks, popularity, travel, food, and other deities) in my life. I live for God. He is my first love, my firs commitment, even before my family. He created me. He created all my mental faculties and abilities. I am happy and delighted to obey Him. I need no "evidence". Evidence is in my heart and in my actions that are congruent with my heart that is devoted to God. If you are asking me to summarize all my Biblical knowledge for you, I won't do it. Someone on another thread posted lots of useful links to gain the basic knowledge of the Abrahamic faiths.

How is this different than Stockholm Syndrome?

It brings people peace and they will die before finding out that they were wrong.

I would tell him he has a great deal of explaining to do.

The horrible things too? That's really sad.

You are putting words into my mouth. I don’t see evidence of God in horrific things, but I am glad God’s promise of eternal life exists for those-all of us- that face horrible things.

God didn’t put us here to suffer and die, he put us here to find Him and live wonderfully.

Humans have a lot to account for. God isn’t making us be greedy, murder and rape each other, and generally be awful. We have choices about the way we live our lives. We are capable of good behavior, but not perfection.

I think instead of asking God to account for the actions of His creations, you should ask them. He’s not forcing any human to be terrible. That’s our choice.

That doesn't answer the question.

That, to me, is very very sad.

No one cares what's sad to you. Certainly God doesn't.

That's very Christian of you!

I'll take that as a "I don't have any evidence".

You can do what ever you want. No one is here to convince you of anything or teach you anything. Not one owes you anything.

I for one am not trying to convince anyone of anything, just answering questions about what I believe.

If you do not believe, that is your choice. I am not going to convince anyone to be a Christian.

If you don’t believe in God, that’s your choice. If you believe in God and are angry with him because of the suffering in the world and believe he is cruel, that’s your view.

My church teaches that God have man free will and man chose to disobey God and thus is cursed. God loves us and wants us to obey Him and sacrificed His Son so we may have eternal life.

That’s just the teachings of my church. No one is forcing anyone to like it or believe it, here.

If you don’t like religion or God or people who are Christians, I don’t know what to tell you. No one is forced in America to embrace or follow any religion. You should find peace with your beliefs and allow others to do the same. Also, if you have questions and want answers, find a pastor to meet with and have an honest conversation with him/her.

There are study guides that explain the Bible sentence by sentence, practically. Even if you disagree with what is written and explained, there’s volumes of information to read and get answers...even if the answers are not satisfactory to you.

If I don’t believe something and think it’s foolish, I usually don’t spend a lot of time trying to suss it out. If you feel the need to know and question, perhaps spend time with the text of the Bible. That’s where answers are.

+1 I agree with you 100%. I am the one who told the pp that he /she can do what ever he/she wants and that no one is here to convince him/her of anything. Again, totally agree with all your point, especially the ones I balded.

There’s thousands of books and websites for almost every religion. Great sources of information.

I have zero problem answering a question about this topic. I just think it’s funny people try to demand evidence and seem angry about my beliefs. If someone is sure God doesn’t exist and it’s all made up blather, then why stress about it? There’s no forced religion in America.

I don’t try to prove other religions wrong, or demand evidence from them. It’s a pretty basic right to worship as you please, or not. I also don’t know of any religion based on hard scientific research, so demanding that of any believer isn’t going to be fruitful.

Yes, major religions seem to have holy text and word from which they base the beliefs. Crazy, right?

You’d have to read each one to gain answers about specific beliefs. I am not familiar with all religions. If you are interested in one, go for it.

Thank you. The pp is hell bent on finding evidence.

Bible usage depends on your choice. The different translations usually have the same meaning, phrased differently. For example:

John 3:14

At this link you will find the different translations and phrasing of John 3:14. Basically the same.

So.... do you think for yourself? As in, do you/have you ever questioned your faith? Or is everything you don't understand a matter of giving it to god?
