LOL. you sure know everything.

Look here. The school calls the boy's parents (just like some of us got called) the evening of the incident. i.e. the boy's parents are made aware of the allegations brought upon their son. What educated reasonable parent wouldn't make sure their gun (if there was one) was then secured. Knowing this, I am comfortable sending my kid to school the next day.

You REALLY need to read some of those articles about families whose toddlers shot other kids. Most of them STILL keep their guns accessible, to "protect their families."

imo, I think you are a little nutty.

Says the women with a loaded gun sliding around the floor of her car, waiting for her toddler to kill her.

I sent a message with link to this thread last night to an ACPD officer who works with the SROs and she wrote me back within the hour and confirmed they would look into it.

Which officer?

I just spoke with a detective from the Arlington police. They are definitely taking this report seriously and I think will try to get in touch with the OP. If this thread has been a hoax, the OP should probably fess up.

I'm the PP who sent the message to ACPD officer last night. I was reassured by her initial response and am very glad to hear from this other PP that ACPD is indeed taking it seriously.

I've said this before and I'll say it again: there is no such thing as overreacting when a child threatens to bring a gun to school and has indicated plans (such as a kill list) to inflict harm on other children. It's another form of "see something, say something" and a pretty critical step in avoiding becoming the next focus for the country's "thoughts and prayers." Thanks to all the PPs who took this seriously enough to report it in some way.

Did they know what you were talking about when you called?

The detective contacted me first, so yes.

The OP just sent a "report" with a lot of questions. Since I don't have a way to respond other than here, I'll answer the questions here:

Because you didn't identify the school, parents are worried that this might involve the schools attended by their children, putting their children in danger. They also did not share your confidence that the school would adequately address a threat. As a result, some parents contacted the police and referred them to this thread. The detective then contacted me. He is trying to identify which school is involved and will try to contact you for that purpose.

If you can provide me contact information, I can put you in touch with the detective and potentially save you from some embarrassment of being tracked down by him.

I must have more faith in the school that you all.
Finally, the closure.
School says they had a talk with all kids together today (the typical APS way of doing it). Apologies were made, etc.....
I asked if police was informed, the school said they followed APS policy during the investigation and interviews to determine if law enforcement needs to be involved. The outcome of the interviews was that it would be an in-house issue. After speaking to the parents of the boy, the school is convinced that there is no longer a threat. Monitoring will continue etc.

Well, since you have refused to name the school, I'm pretty sure other parents aren't going to just let this be swept under the rug.

I will not name the school. You can do whatever you want. It's resolved as far as I am concerned to my satisfaction. If the cop finds me, I have no worries. But you won't get the school from me. At this point, it doesn't really matter. Not giving some of you crazies any fuel.

This is not a "school" issue. As someone who work with law enforcement after multiple school shootings, the one thing EVERYONE says is "I wish someone had called the police sooner"

Don't be that person we are interviewing who says that.

Shouldn't I give the school a chance to act accordingly?

It's your child on the list. We live in a time when these things can and do play out with mortal consequences. It's your issue to gable the way you want to regardless of how the school chooses to handle it. If you want to call the police, call the police. The school can be mad but if something happens to your child, you're the one who goes home from the cemetery without a kid while everyone else goes home to their family.

Very blasé OP when your kid is on a KILL list.

Someone should check with Jeff to see if this is real parent posting from Arlington.

They did, and she's posting from a company in Bethesda. The police called Jeff.

Apparently no one has enough faith in their school system, especially the aps parents who insist on calling the police.
They send their kids to school but believe that only the police can handle situations like this. I actually can't believe that no one said "let the school investigate". Have you all been burned/lied to by APS or something? Astonishing.
