And that the actual argument posed by the people who don't think dogs belong in certain places has nothing to do with dogs' intelligence, or whether or not dogs possess any specific quality or trait, and attempts to argue that dogs possess specific qualities of any kind does not change or address the crux of the argument in the least. |

My favorite quote EVER from DCUM comes from this thread: "How dumbass of a dcum poster like you to think they are better than dogs."
Priceless. Just priceless. |
No, not all dog owners do this. Some dog owners are responsible and considerate people, and they keep their dogs in appropriate places. I wish them and their dogs the very best. These responsible dog owners and their pets are NOT being targeted or attacked on this thread. |

I have a very small dog. I could bring her into a store and you would not even know it, because she could be in my bag with a scarf on it. She does not make noise. This is not owner subjectivity- she is silent.
But, I don't do that. If I'm out, going to the vet and then some errands literally around the corner, I take her with me. She has gone to the post office, bakery, liquor store. When I set my first foot in the door, with her in my hand, I ask "Is it okay to bring her in?" and they say yes, so I do. If that's a problem for you, you should probably leave. |

I am a dog person. I also like cats (but am allergic to them). Why do I like my dog?
Well when I get home, she is always happy to see me. She hears the car (and can tell the difference between my car and other cars), and gets excited. She is waiting at the door, and she greets me. My Wife, nah. My kid, nah. My dog keeps my yard free of squirrels. She warns me when the Pizza delivery person is here, or the mail is close by. She is almost always happy. She is patient. Oh, and any food on the floor? she cleans up. Natures vacuum cleaner. She alerted me when someone was breaking into my car at 2 AM; the police caught the Mother F***r. Mostly she is content just to be with us - her family. I know dogs have emotions. I know they are pretty smart. Now, she does make mistakes. For example, she hears Guac as Walk, and gets all excited. |
| and dog people hate you , OP! |
I agree. It was shocking for me to read that too! Now, with this my assumption on the intelligence of an average DCUM poster has come crashing down! Sad. |
+100 It just seems that it's more "fashionable" to be a dog person now a days. Everyone is conditioned to think that it's wrong to pass judgement on people who don't like kids, but heaven help someone who "admits" to not caring for dogs. |

Bringing your dog into any restaurant is gross and tacky, and I'll assume you at some point in your life lived in a trailer. Service dogs an exception of course.
Saw a couple pushing their dog around in a carriage in Target the other. I was embarrassed for them. |
| Home Depot dog woman still here? |
You really think it's cool and nice for your 80 lb. dog to body slam people? |
|
People were so much more respectful with their dogs, back in the day.
Now they bring them EVERYWHERE. Don't restrain them, don't leash them, don't train them, call them "service dogs" when they're not, but use their dog like a child and their security blanket or stuffed animal. It's ridiculous. I don't know how "cat people" got such a bad rep (fyi I don't own any pets, but dog owners are far, far, FAR more awful) |
