| Kenyon places many eggs in the ED basket. A 34 ED will most likely get an admit. A 34 RD will most likely get waitlisted. |
I agree that ED is a huge benefit here but I still think a 34 has a very high chance of admit in RD based on our Scattergrams |
Where did she choose to go? |
| My DD is at Kenyon and loves it. She's an athlete and her best friend doesn't play a sport. DH and I were a bit concerned that Kenyon would feel too isolated for DD, but that hasn't been an issue at all. The campus is beautiful, teaching is excellent, and yes, there are dogs on campus. Lemon, the corgi, is a celeb. |
I agree with the second poster based on the naviance information from our mcps high school (my senior is applying so we probably over-analyzed the Kenyon scattergram). also, anecdotally we know 2 kids RD admitted from our mcps hs who had act scores in low 30s and both got some merit aid. |
For whatever reason, Kenyon is extremely popular with MoCo kids. Lots of applicants and lots of enrollees. |
|
Kenyon recruits heavily in field hockey, soccer, and lacrosse from the DMV.
Also b/c schools like BCC, Churchill and the Ws send a few grads every year Kenyon feels comfortable accepting a fair number from this area b/c it’s a safe bet yield will be good and likely fully pay families. |
The DC alumni group is as big and active as any other Kenyon alum group. |

Kenyon is a back up school for DMV applicants who would have preferred going to a top NE liberal arts college but can't get in. It's not on par academically with the top liberal arts colleges in the midwest (Carleton and Grinnell), but it's a good school.
One of my kid's classmates went there after not getting into UVA in state despite being a double legacy. The parents were furious. |
| Always thought of Carleton/Grinnell/Kenyon about the same. Maybe edge to Kenyon for writing but sure the others have strong areas as well |
| Kenyon doesn't have a CS major. No thank you. |
My niece is at Kenyon and worked for the Democratic party last fall. No. Not too trumpy. |
No way. Kenyon is clearly a half-tier below at a minimum. US News ranks Carleton 9th, Grinnell 13th, and Kenyon 30th. Carleton's admission rate is 21 percent, Grinnell is 19, and Kenyon is 37. Carleton's endowment is $1.1 billion, more than double Kenyon's $429 million, while Grinnell's endowment is an astonishing $2.1 billion. No comparison. |
A fair number of international students, considering it's a liberal arts school with no STEM, I was impressed by this. |
| Kenyon has science majors and a 3-2 engineering program. |
