| Constantly on the alleged brink of becoming a better ranked school. Never seems to happen. |
Yep, lots of parties for some kids. Plenty of others who really don't care about parties at all. |
| Parents, where do you typically stay when visiting? |
There is the Kenyon Inn which is the only place right on campus but we stayed at a place called Gambier Loft that we found on their website. It was a guest house being run by a really nice couple and it was totally adorable! It also came with a full kitchen and breakfast foods. From what I recall it was very close to campus - maybe 3 miles? I highly recommend it! |
Good tip. But what about during the school year when this is usually booked up? |
| BCC regularly sends grads there. Nice, smart kids, and often athletic recruits. |
They have several recommendations on the admissions website so I would start there. Unless it's parents weekend or orientation or a big visit day I bet you can find rooms easily. |
Kenyon grad, did you have DC roots before you went to Kenyon? Did you like your time there? |
I did not have DC roots when I went there. I am originally from Ohio. My time there was good. |
| I remember visiting - its teeny and there was no town to speak of. The college post office was the town post office. If I was sometime who thought I'd want to live a NYC life long term, Kenyon might feel isolating. Many similarly selective LACs are in actual towns or cities (Macalester, Colorado College, etc...). There is something to be said for that magical bubble of a college experience, but I'd think hard. |
+100 Very remote indeed. Not for everyone to say the least. |
|
Kenyon? Never heard of it.
I'm not sure what exactly he wants to do in finance, but if he wants to work in investment banking, they are obsessed with IVY schools. It's a very narrow minded view, but this is what you are dealing with. If you attend a school that isn't top 10, the odds aren't on your side. |
| Great academics. Stunning campus. Left leaning UMC kids who predominately hail from the NE and MidAtlantic. Basically a NE SLAC beamed into the middle of a corn field. |
|
The knock against Kenyon is that it is in the middle of nowhere.
That is actually its greatest strength and the true beauty of the place (breathtaking campus aside). If forces opposites to interact, and often attract. It's there that jocks (a third of the student body are recruited athletes), eloquent hipster navel gazers (they have a reknowned writing program), and boarding school party kids all converge and...wait for it...talk, engage and even hook up cross-species... |
They're almost all UMC kids from professional households one way or another. So not that shocking. Or diverse. Not a knock on Kenyon at all. I like the school. But as with all expensive colleges, let's not pretend there's truly that much diversity in the student body. |
