| The Kenyon Bubble. A great respite from, and preparation for, the Real World. |
| Lots of renovation and building going on. Visited last weekend. Enamored with the place. As beautiful as they say. dc as impressed. But wants to check out MN colleges before making a final ED call. |
Kenyon is on my DD's short list. She likes academics and how beautiful it is. The big concern is the alleged drinking culture. This does not appeal to her at all. I know many students change their minds and wind up really enjoying that aspect of college. I know my kid though. and it's not a religious or moral thing. It's just the way she is. What sort of things do non-drinking students do for fun at Kenyon? Roughly what percentage of the student population is substance free? Are they social pariahs? Thanks |
| Have her do an overnight visit - my daughter did and she decided not to apply there. |

What are target firms that recruit Kenyon grads?
|
| You will hear that every small isolated school has a strong drinking culture, may be true, but best to find out by asking people who go there (not those who may have 30 years ago) and visit. Most schools like Kenyon will have a drinking culture but it is unlikely to require participation and there will be lots more activities for students to do. Small isolated schools survive not because they drink day and night but because the Administration ensures there is lots going on. |
Literally every college is doing this shit. |
No, literally every college is not doing this or I would not have spent close to $700 on college applications this past year and read about 10 supplemental essays. |
This is only partly the case. DC attended and definitely felt heavy pressure to participate in the drinking. Social outcast for those who don't. |
| Great writing program. Classic SLAC. Mainly UMC who lean left but will more quickly march to a Georgetown bar than anywhere on the Mall. Frat culture, but very inclusive. Beautiful campus, incredible architecture old and new. |
There is a real effort to become more racially and economically diverse. Being in the middle of Trump territory makes some URM wary, but the school has no problem with attracting international students. |
| Watch the movie Liberal Arts. |
I just saw it last night and it was a great movie! My daughter is headed to Oberlin but we visited Kenyon as well and I immediately recognized the campus. Very cool since two of the leads (and the writer) went there. |
Congrats to your daughter! I've often heard Oberlin is a natural overlap of Kenyon's. Though they definitely have different vibes. Was there any one factor that tilted he scale towards Oberlin? |
3 star movie. But it shows off a 5 star campus. Plan to visit this fall. |
