Is anyone planning to go to this meeting tonight? If so, do you mind posting if the expansion was approved?

Also, if the expansion is approved -- any guesses as to when they will start calling waitlisted families? I know no one knows definitely, but I'm excited about the prospect of getting a call...and can't help but ask.

That would be odd as the vote is expected at 8:43 tonight http://www.dcpcsb.org/event/board-meeting-16

wouldn't be the oddest thing to happen in DC

True! Maybe PP found a staff recommendation to the Board?

They also agreed to start admitting in K for open spaces.

For fall 2016 or next cycle?

I note PP who has claimed on more than one thread that anyone who says that it's not a good idea to incorporate kids without Montessori experience into the elementary classroom can't possibly know what they are talking about because they must only have a three year old has not come back to apologize or admit that she was wrong when faced with information that directly contradicts her erroneous assertion. PP, I really hope I don't meet you in person.

Me? Aww.

Yes, I was a terrible person for suggesting that I had seen successful Montessori integration. You, having elementary school children IN Montessori doesn't disprove that at all. And, it looks like LAMB is adding kids in, so it looks like I was right.

But have a nice day.

It was mentioned in the April board meeting that it would have to be in the following cycle as they didn't conduct a lottery for K for this year.

That's good news on both counts!

I am a LAMB family and I have mixed emotions about this but it seems that our administration has determined they can make it work and I trust them. I will say I don't really think this increases anyone's odds of getting in because they aren't increasing enrollment now that they are admitting in K (outside of the expansion), they will just spread the openings out across PK3-K, making fewer non-sibling openings available in PK3 and PK4. The class sizes can't get any bigger, so if they decide to fill some of the open K slots, there will just be fewer PK3 and PK4 spots. I suppose if they aren't at their current enrollment cap, they could add an additional new primary classroom to reach enrollment cap, but I have heard no discussion of this happening. But maybe our administrators have some great idea to make this work out well for everyone!
