Will the PCSB move to force LAMB to back-fill after PK4?

How many kids are in 5th grade compared to Pk3/4. Would like to know how many kids leave.

You can go to learndc.org and see how many kids are in each grade. But it won't tell the whole story because there have been lower grade expansions since the current 4th and 5th graders started.

My child graduated from LAMB last spring with 17 other children. There were 45 who started with him at PK3. There were ~38-39remaining when he was in 3rd.

As has been stated before the lack of a middle school option drove most of the attrition.

When kids leave they try to add kids in PK grades to make up for student who left. It's just a different way of structuring the school.

So more kids will stay now that there is DCI?

That is the pattern so far.

Last year there were 17 5th graders. This year there are about ~25.

The reason they are seeking permission to add a primary class is due to the need to secure another classroom for a 3rd class of 4th and 5th graders.

The current 3rd graders would be the oldest students to be part of the expansion year when they added 4 new primary classrooms.

any updates on this? any movement in the PK4 list?

No update. PCSB meets again 5/18 - nothing will happen before that.

Montessori classes are ages 3-6, 6-9 and 9-12. So, there is no such thing as a PK class and a 5th grade class at LAMB. You must mean primary and upper elementary.

Once again proof that LAMB is not real Montessori. Even their language is off. Also, why isn't anyone questioning the fact that this successful, oh so wonderful, highly sought after school loses half of its students by fifth grade?? Is this really so successful then?

Oh FFS. I'm not a LAMB supporter, but you're making a mountain out of a molehill. Up until just last year, they had the same problem as Brent - no viable middle school alternative, so parents bolted early and often to get into Deal feeders, Latin, etc. Now that they have a feeder to DCI, I think you'll see a higher retention rate. What you might also see (if they are forced to accept at the higher grades) is the "5th Grade Bulge" experienced at places like Bancroft and Shepherd, in which parents suddenly develop a passionate interest in these schools just to get their kids into Deal then Wilson. I predict that if the DCPCSB makes LAMB admit 5th graders, you'll see this happen as a guaranteed feed to DCI.

I am even more amused because it is fairly obvious that her own child is still on the polishing plates part of the Montessori experience.

As an additional insight, what with the having of a child scoring double 5s on parcc and knowing how to read, I will add: any school that talks about how they "want" to have lower sea people send their kids there but it just isn't happening?

Those people are lame and, much like a person with a three year old who will tell you your Montessori experience isn't genuine?

They are talking out of their ads.

You can assume whatever you want, but like you I have elementary aged Montessori children (plural). I have no idea why you insist otherwise. And because my children have primary experience I know how important it is as a foundation for elementary. If half the kids didn't have that foundation the guide should have to make significant accommodations to the method. Because you and your child don't have that background you don't seem to understand this.

I note PP who has claimed on more than one thread that anyone who says that it's not a good idea to incorporate kids without Montessori experience into the elementary classroom can't possibly know what they are talking about because they must only have a three year old has not come back to apologize or admit that she was wrong when faced with information that directly contradicts her erroneous assertion. PP, I really hope I don't meet you in person.

Don't let the facts* get in the way of your crazy. Carry on Montessori Lite.

*the school has expanded many times, so the upper grades are always smaller. Plus some kids leave after 4th for Latin or Basis but most are now staying because of DCI.
