I am from MD and have no dog in this fight, but it is very insulting for all these transplants to move to VA and not respect the culture of the natives. Whatever happened to tolerance and respecting people who are different from you?

Whatever happened to tolerating and respecting the culture and values of the 150 years that FOLLOWED the civil war? Why should all of that take a back seat just so that a bunch of backward racists can continue to live out a fantasy of how life was when blacks were slaves and were not considered fully human?

America, the country, and its values and culture have existed for nearly 240 years. Why should all of that take a back seat for the disastrous and destructive 4 years that the Confederacy existed?

Nobody is talking about American culture taking a "backseat" to anything. We are talking about a few street names. Comparing that to slavery or Jim Crow makes you sound like a lunatic.

I don't really care what happens to the name of this particular highway. Change it or don't. But just drop the schtick that "progressives" are in any way tolerant or willing to try to get along with people that are not like them. That was your schtick for do long, but it's been unmasked so stop with the hypocrisy and just play it straight. "We have power now, you don't, eat shit." After a, that is how you think.

Yes, because I'm sure Germany has so many roads and buildings named after Hitler or other Third Reich top officials that still remain today.

Jefferson Davis = treason. Pure and simple.

Not treason to his state. I'm not sure why you assume that the federal association should be thought to automatically take president over the state association. If a Frenchman today participated in a movement to have France secede from the European Union, would you call him a "traitor" to the E.U.? That's what the United states was like in 1860. It wasn't hat it is today. One's state citizenship was far more important in relation to federal citizenship. A Virginian who sided with the union would have been as much or more of a "traitor."

Imagine if the state capital was in Fairfax. You wouldn't have so much of this lingering BS. Nope, we have backwards Richmond. Stuck in the past.

WTF??? It's 2015 - the civil war ended over 150 years ago. And, the STATE of Virginia is PART OF THE COUNTRY OF THE U.S.A.!!! The E.U. is a mechanism of common commerce in Europe; if any country wants to go back to carrying it's own currency for any reason it does not mean they are enemies of those countries that remain in it.

Looks like a good spot for a MLK monument.

Are your really comparing Nazi ethnic cleansing to the American civil war?

Yes, bitch; I am. The southern/confederate socio-economic system relied heavily on a forced labor force that was not compensated for their efforts and were treated as subhuman. How is it that you can't see the difference??

We still have the guns. Use that power abusively and wantonly against the American people, and it won't end well.

Jefferson Davis was not a Virginian, so why should Virginia celebrate him at all? If a French nationalist waged armed war against the rest of Europe in the name of white supremacy and it resulted in the deaths of hundreds of thousands (basically what Jefferson Davis did versus the US) then I absolutely would call him a traitor and liken him to Hitler.
