Sidwell Sex Scandal

My DC is new to Sidwell and in her 10th grade class, and all I have ever heard about this class has been that there has never been any bullying incidents. The Washingtonian blog piece makes it sound as though the PE teacher was saying something bad about the Woodward daughter and bullying.

Then maybe take the context of this coming up as an indication of how significant (or not) the issue was ... the term "bullying" gets throw around a lot when it's not really bullying.

Why would Newmyer want a pre-trial settlement? Does HE need the money? Is HE worried about his future job prospects? Is HIS reputation in danger from further leaks?

Maybe he's afraid of the counterclaim? If so, is his strategy to hire a PR firm to make Sidwell and its shrink look even worse?

Nope. None of that makes sense and the relentless attack on the guy doesn't seem to be working.

A lot of whistling past the graveyard on this thread.

Some people feel they can never have too much money or did you miss the tax hike on the top 2% debate and push back ? Plus, 14 million net worth in Palm Beach is practically the hoi ploi.

FYI ..The term is 'hoi polloi,' not 'hoi ploi.' From Greek, meaning 'the many.'

As a lawyer ... hiring a PR firm for your complaint does not indicate that you want a settlement, necessarily. It means you want to publicize the charges. Full trial is the ultimate means of achieving that goal, and as long as you have a case that gets past a minimum standard .... you can go to trial. I predict full public nasty trial in this case. Or a huge settlement.

The idea that Newmyer has a PR firm posting on DCUM is pure paranoia.

I know for sure that people were hired to post here about a lawsuit involving Landon. The accusation about a PR firm may be wrong, but it is not paranoia.

Not paranoia at all. Newmyer admitted in discovery that he hired a public relations firm to spread the word and increase embarrassment. See page 3 of this court filing. http://dcslapplaw.com/files/2013/01/Huntington_mtd_appeal.pdf

On May 12, 2011, I received an email from the same PR firm mentioned in the above link saying, "I want to tell you about the sidwell friends $10M lawsuit that was filed this a.m. [sexual misconduct.] I think mothers would be very interested to know!"

Here was my reply, "What is the purpose of the lawsuit? Won't this additional publicity further harm the child? Why does the father need a PR specialist? Is his primary goal simply to embarrass the school and his (former?) wife?"

Much to my shock and surprise, I did not receive a response.

The owner of the PR firm is married to a reporter at Washingtonian which is the only publication pushing this story.

Which side of the Landon lawsuit was the PR firm working for?

I am not aware of a PR firm being involved with the Landon situation, but I caught people who are paid to post comments posting in support of the plaintiff (i.e. anti-school side).

It doesn't seem like anyone needs professional help anymore explaining what a s&*t-show this has become!

So what's happened to James Huntington?

(Parts of his lawsuit countersuing for 13M have been dismissed. Such hubris for countersuing with all the stuff that he did!)

"Parts" is the operative word. The case was not dismissed
