Hi guys! Plum here. Just over 11 weeks today. Soooo hungry and am eating nonstop...I get to be starving, then I eat so much I feel sick. Ugh.

I have my nt and blood test next week. Fingers crossed all looks good!

Hoping everyone feels good and has a great week.

Nothing to report here...just terrible waiting for my next appointment (NT scan, then a week after that, OB). Two weeks to go. It's SO awful.
I'm trying to be really good about food choices and as of this coming Friday, I'll be 10 weeks and can work out (though, I'll be reducing my progesterone/estrogen vs just stopping until my current RX is out...my choice). I'm going to TRY to take step class next Monday and see how I do after so many months away.
hope everyone is doing great - this coming Monday the weather is predicted to be beautiful! 70 degrees!

OMG, Monday sounds divine! So nice that I may take the afternoon off and take the kiddo to fly a kite on the national mall or something. Pumpkin here. Hi raspberry and plum! Glad everyone is doing and feeling fine!

Today is my first (finally!!!) appointment with the midwife. I'm not sure if it was this thread or somewhere else that I asked, but I do get an ultrasound (I believe it's optional) to confirm pregnancy. Yay the special! Though maybe not since i'm 9 weeks tomorrow they'll probably be able to do it abdominally. Anyone else get super stressed before the first? So worried about the unknown, like what if there is no heartbeat? (no reason to think that besides nerves....but still!). I'll feel so much better after we see the hb. Wish my appointment were NOW, not this afternoon. I'm also just jittery due to all of those twin dreams. The time is going so slowly today!

I was thinking of taking a tennis clinic in late April. I wonder if that's nuts. I guess I'll ask my midwife today!

70 degrees sounds amazing! I was OK with the cold when it was dreary out, but now that it's blue skies and sun, I want some warmth to go along with it!

Good luck today, Pumpkin! They may do TV, abdominal, or both (start with abdominal, then switch if they want to see more). I think it just depends on the provider, and I'm sure the midwives have a standard practice. Keep us posted, and I'll be sending you good thoughts and hope that the time doesn't drag on too slowly for you!

Peanut here. I have my NT scan in a week and a half. OMG...seriously the days are draaaaaaging. I also need to lay off those babycenter forums that talk about missed miscarriages and such. It's awful.

So I did a projected budget today for when the baby is born and it basically shows that we'll be living paycheck to paycheck. How have you ladies budgeted for a baby? How do you make things work? What things did you have to cut down on?

Btw, i'm sooooo hungry! I already had a bagel with cream cheese, a banana, an orange, and 4 glasses of water.

This is wavy! with our first baby it somehow miraculously work out. you just end up watching your spending. with a newborn you naturally stay in more, so there's less you're spending on entertainment and going out. we made a concerted effort to pack lunches every day and saved money that way. plus you just become super conscious about spending in general. no buying new clothes or unnecessary things.

the biggest adjustment was putting aside money for the child care, but that is something you plan in advance, and we just live WAY more streamlined, as in, we have NO money at the end of the month.

one option could be to check with your tax person to see if you need to chance your withholdings?

Also, this is wavy again: i just wanted to share that i just bought a few things off of Ann Taylor LOFT from their maternity section. i'll be sure to share whether the purchases were successful! now that i'm getting thicker i've been dreaming of comfort in maternity clothes, and may cave after the 12 week mark!

Good luck today, Pumpkin! When I saw that twins thread from yesterday (the whole "yikes, we just found out we're having twins" one), I totally wondered if it was you. ;^) I was nervous before my first appointment, too, and am still freaking out about missed miscarriages. But chances are all will go well. Let us know how it goes!

Budgeting is tricky. A lot of stuff we bought used or got from friends, and I buy almost all of our daughter's clothes from consignment stores. We were super lucky to avoid childcare costs for the first year by rearranging our schedules--and thanks to understanding bosses and a lot of very late nights. I'm planning to transition to PT work after the new baby comes, but will likely be able to earn the same or a bit more. I'm anticipating a few lean months when I'm not working at all in the beginning, but then we should be okay. So, I'm hoping that a combo of reduced childcare for our older daughter (cheaper when she turns two) and the PT will mean no additional childcare costs, at least for the first year. And like wavy said, you do just make adjustments and live a more streamlined life. There is so much in this area by way of free or cheap entertainment, it's great to take advantage of.

Oops--11:45 was Poppy.

I'll add that I've not bought any maternity clothes yet, but have definitely been looking. Belly Dance maternity is my favorite, though I can only afford the stuff on sale. Mostly I just look and sigh wistfully.

Yes! This is Wavy again and I totally agree with everything Poppy says about budgeting. Don't feel stressed about needing to buy brand new and high end everything for the baby. That's what your registry is for

We got TONS of hand me downs from family for clothing, and for whatever we needed, we either bought from Goodwill (and washed REALLY well), or bought on sale on sale by clocking deals and stuff online (i.e. zulily or totsy, but i've found the BEST deals to be the 75% off sales at the end of season in actual brick and mortar stores)

We are also huge fans of CL and getting as much as possible off of there. I'd also recommend everyone get signed up with their local neighborhood listserv, because the communities are amazing and people are always letting go of things for very cheap or donating them to others in the community that need them. We've gotten everything from free diapers and cheap toddler toys, and have used it to sell a humidifier and give away unopened formula!

We kind of live off of the formula to NEVER pay full price for anything, and it works for us!

Also, the neighborhood listservs often arrange things like clothing swaps, which are an awesome way to meet people and get things you need. they do baby clothing, maternity clothing, regular mama clothing, books, etc. you name it!

Pumpkin here reporting in. There is only one pea in the pod!!!! I was like "dude, you're sure, right? There could be no surprise, right?" Thanks for the info interloper. I had ultrasounds every single appointment with my first and I know that the midwives do far fewer. One practice does not do an early ultrasound, but Wisdom does, though if you wanted to you can decline it. That's what I was trying to say. I got the abdominal, no problems seeing the pumpkin. So, no "special" for me. Dang! I mean, not dang.

So the heartbeat was there, right on track, and my measurements were 8 weeks 6 days, (I'll be 9 weeks tomorrow according to LMP) so everything seems completely normal and good. Met with the midwife, who was awesome. My appointment lasted for about an hour, she really was super involved and caring. I was really happy with the practice so far and think Wisdom was a good choice. And JinDC, no nutritional strictness! She said the diet is a guideline, and if you're eating something similar, it's okay. That it's only meant to be taken literally if you don't know how to eat for nutrition. And I admitted to cookies on my 24 hour diet log, but she never even looked at it. So, WHEW! I'm so glad that's out of the way.

My husband was really bummed. this is the first appointment he's missed, but he's our primary child care and we haven't told our son yet, (just in case, waiting until the risks seem more palatable to reduce the chances of having to tell him if a problem came up) and all feels really well. Anyway, DH was sad he missed the ultrasound.

Those with other kid(s) when did you tell the others? I may start a thread on the forum about that - just wondering how others with young kids approached that. On the one hand, I'd like to almost wait until like 20 weeks, so it doesn't seem like so much time has to pass before the baby he'll be waiting for gets here, but on the other hand, it will probably be noticeable before that, and if I have to take him to appointments, which I sometimes will, it will be hard to do that without telling him. He's just old enough that we can't get much past him anymore (3.5).

Yay, Pumpkin!! So glad to hear the appointment went well in all respects and that your little one is measuring on track. Awesome news! Such a bummer your husband had to miss it, I can understand that. Mine was disappointed he didn't get to see the ultrasound when I was in the ER--he's never missed one before then. But it is what it is.

My daughter's so young (not quite 17 months now) that I think she won't get it for a while. We have "told" her, and although her receptive language is probably better than we think, a baby in mommy's tummy is pretty abstract to her. Once I'm obviously showing, we'll get her a baby doll to have, and tell her more regularly about the baby. I'll be curious to hear other's responses.

FWIW, I was a little over four when my sister was born, and I really remember my mom's pregnancy (mostly her being sick). I can't remember when they told me, but recall the day she was born very clearly. My parents got me a Mr. Potato Head as a big sister present, and man I loved that thing.

Anyway. So happy to hear your good news!
