What have you bought that was a complete waste of money?

$1000 on a Bose home theater system that literally stopped working after a week and I kept forgetting to send it back, so now the warranty's expired and they won't fix it. Blender/food processor that stopped working after the first time I used it. Pasta maker from which I can't remove the attachment so I can only make linguine - no other types of pasta. Meat grinder I've never used because I can't get the pasta maker to make ravioli. Also bought several sweater sets from a store in Tysons without trying them on. Got them home and they are freakishly small and the store doesn't do returns or exchanges. Grrr. As for baby stuff... those "miracle sheets" - bought 2 and realized they're not really any easier to use than just plain sheets, but can't return them to target.

flaking on taxes when I was an independent contractor and was supposed to file quarterly 1099s. That 30K tax bill suucccked. Ruined me financially.

$1,000 on a beautiful crib that DD hasn't spent a full night in yet and she's 18 months old. Sigh.

--Doula (HUGE waste)
--Diaper champ (turns out I like putting the poop outside instead of hoarding it)
--Expensive stroller-- the umbrella one is better than the Zooper I got as a gift
--Trip to Disney
--Britax car seat-- the cheaper one fits my car better
--Kettler trike. Way overpriced

But none of it compares to pre-baby expenditures. Wedding dress? Ouch!

I second the doula as a HUGE waste of money.

Same here. I am holding on to the idea that if we have a second kid, maybe he/she would like to spend more time in the stroller...

I second that. My closet if packed full of 'nothing to wear'.

* All the toys I buy my baby/kids, thinking it will keep them happy/occupied, only for them to play w/ it for 5 minutes and never pick it up again. I'm sure several PPs also mentions this.

Sassy Diaper Sacks.

Diaper Champ. Absolutely love it! BTW - I also was one of those ignorant buyers who bought Diaper Genie first. Gave it away after a month.

Diaper Champ

After all, who allows crap to float around in a toilet for a week?

Diapers for #2 go straight into a trash bin OUTSIDE the house.

bumbo chair
baby clothes in sizes under 12 months
play mats for baby (forgot to check whether they had PVC or other nasty chemicals before we ordered them)
breast pump (the rented one from hospital was SO much better I never used the one I bought)
every different type of bottle/nipple imaginable, thinking one of them would be magic

We don't have a damper champ, but we have a diaper genie - ours gets cut off and tied every 3 days (DD is in daycare four days a week) and chucked in the garage where we keep the trash. I think it works great! DD is quite the pooper and I don't want to have to go out every time she poops. Could not live without mine!!!
