Dear middle-aged women: capri pants do nothing for you.

Congratulations! You have solved the tragic worldwide "fat ladies should not wear capri" epidemic. I can now sleep at night...as long as the terrorists aren't busy.

It pains me to say it, but I have to agree with OP - and Tim Gunn. Capris generally aren't flattering, and they do make me (5' 9''), and many of us, look a little stumpy. I still have almost a dozen, which I'll wear throughout the summer, but I'm not kidding myself that they look particularly good or chic. It's a matter of practicality and comfort.

Though I do have a black pair that is skinny and cropped right below the knee that I've got a ton of compliments while wearing. But that might be the mythical "good" length - and it's not even a length that's "in" this season either.

God. OP. I know you've moved on ( and are two years older, he,he) but you ae a total bit$!. Ad I'm certain you are not nearly as hot as you think you are. I am 42 and I still have it! Will you be able to say that when you are my age? Please check back in with us.

I went to an event today and many men and women in their 40s and 50s were in attendance. Most of the men wore polo shirts tucked in under their pot bellies and shorts.

Nearly all the women wore capri pants. Capri pants do nothing for you. If you are short, you don't look good in capri pants. If you are fat, you don't look good in capri pants. If you are tall, you don't look good in capri pants. If you are thin, you don't look good in capri pants. No matter the body type or age, capri pants are not flattering.

I say this lovingly. Wear anything else- anything! Shorts (long shorts, if you want to; even short shorts look better than capris), a skirt, pants, anything but capri pants. They make everyone look stumpy and shapeless. No one looks good in them.

Darn, I thought I looked good.

I wear capri pants because I don't want to wear shorts. Now that I am in my 40's I don't care as much what people think.

There are options besides capris: sundresses, knee length shorts, cotton or linen summer weight pants, light weight skirts, skorts

Ha ha, I was just thinking about this thread as I painfully attempt to piece together a summer wardrobe yet again. Despite myself, I am not going to do capris, and it is all becaus of DCUM.

That said, what do people think about the more tailored, skinny "crop" pants out now? I don't think they are as bad as capris.

Surprised to see this thread resurrected.

Anyway, it's warming up around here, so I'm sure I'll start seeing lots of ankles peeking out of capris soon.

We need to annually resurrect this thread to save the women of DC from fashion errors.

Oh, good grief. By the time you are "middle-aged" I would hope you would have enough confidence to wear what you want and not rely upon fashion complaints from an anonymous poster on an a mean-spirited forum. Without regard to pages and pages of snark, the designers are still producing this pants and they are still being purchased by women of all ages.

Capris are what middle aged women wear on hot days when they are busy. Get over it. they look better than those ridiculous fountain sweaters or the full view of your elderly boobs.

+1,000. If you're judging my capri pants, then you're spending way more energy on something that absolutely doesn't affect you than you need to. But go right on ahead.

I thought like op as well. Until I reached my late 30 s and cellulite and veins started ruining my legs. Now I understand why many women do not like sorts! Capris are cooler in warm weather but hide flaws.

I hate capris because I'm short and they are very unflattering on me. They look like I bought a pair of regular pants that don't fit right. I've seen other people wear them and look fine. I'll stick to shorts or casual skirts if I'm feeling insecure about my legs.

I love the fact that OP is now two years closer to middle age than when she wrote this.
