Zero evidence of any of this.

I find it horrifying. What is wrong with Israel??? This is terrible. They should be allowed to bring aid to Gaza.

Ben Gvir, the convicted by Israeli courts of terrorism Cabinet member in charge of their police and head of the "Jew Power" (direct translation) Party, literally told them (on film) that he was their "master".

This is not surprising. The only thing that's surprising is the extent to which American supporters of Israel sell their souls and turn their backs on every value they hold dear in order to cover up what he does.

“Israel’s far-right national security minister, Itamar Ben-Gvir, sparked a diplomatic crisis on Wednesday after publishing footage of Israeli security forces abusing international activists who were detained as they tried to sail to Gaza with aid.

There was a rapid and furious response from countries whose citizens were on board the boats, including the UK, Canada, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain and Ireland, in many cases delivered in person from the top of government. Several nations have summoned their Israeli diplomats over the appalling incident.

Benjamin Netanyahu moved to quell the furore, criticising Ben-Gvir’s actions as “not in line with Israel’s values and norms” and saying he had instructed the activists to be deported from Israel as soon as possible. And even the US ambassador to Israel, Mike Huckabee, one of the country’s staunchest allies, described Ben-Gvir’s behaviour as “despicable” and said the minister “betrayed the dignity of his nation”.”

Sounds like even Bibi is displeased with the monster he created.

He literally said that he (and Israelis) were "the Masters".

It is not surpising that even Bibi would be aware that what Ben Gvir said was beyond the pale (internationally) and harmful to Israel (internationally). It is shocking that international newspapers covered up the very clear and direct message delivered by the Israeli Minister for National Security.

The Jewish people I know are some of the kindest people I know with a strong sense of moral clarity. And yet they seem to reflexively protect Israel. When you see stories like this (and many others), it is hard to understand how they are managing the cognitive dissonance. Israel seems like it’s governed by a bunch of thugs.

The lesson here is it doesn't matter if you're a man, woman or child. If you're a non Israeli and come in contact with the IDF, there's a good possibility you'll be raped or experience sexual abuse.

Not necessarily. I have a Palestinian friend and her father was in prison for 2 years in the late 70s for having no permit for a barber shop in the West Bank or something and he was given a ridiculous 10 year sentence and a jewish civil rights group helped him get out and come
To America.

There are nuances here although from what she tells me, both Palestine and Israel in the 70s was more left leaning and less far right than it is today.

Jews who are middle-aged and older grew up in the shadow of the Holocaust and the Arab-Israeli wars when the existence of Israel (and Jews) was very fraught. Also of course there is a certain amount of myth-making around the founding of Israel. Combine that with the long history of anti-semitism and you get a community whose first instinct is to defend Israel.

In some ways I wonder if it’s not too different from Christians who constantly think they are being persecuted for their beliefs in America having outsized influence on society.

However there are a growing number of American Jews who understand that, sadly, they have to choose between their democratic pluralist values and supporting Israel.
