Not a good sign for small schools...

Well I've heard from our school-based counselor that there's less interest in rural LACs compared to a few years ago, even ones that have strong reputations but are kind of in the middle of nowhere (like Williams, Carleton, Vassar, Wes, Midd).More students seem to want a different kind of student experience near urban cities: especially Boston area, NYC, Chicago area, or LA. It won't be a problem for Williams or Carleton to fill seats, there's still plenty of people who want the rural LAC experience, it just means they have to go deeper in the waitlist than in the past.

My senior only wanted urban. Even in-state options were too rural for him.

Same. My DD did consider suburban locations that were roughly 30-ish minutes public transportation from a big city or inside the city only.

This was my DS almost exactly except for a couple of borderline target/safety schools which he would only attended if all other things failed.

For example, applied to Rutgers because of its proximity to NYC.

Schools don’t “release waitlist decisions.” They maintain a pool of kids, sometimes literally many multiples larger than the pool they admit, so if their yield is way off from expectations they can fill the class. Emory offers admission (historically) to approximately 5% of those waitlisted and Georgetown approximately 6%.
