That’s great! Are they going? DC is there and loves it. |
Why only "School of Architecture". |

At our private:
2 people (friends of DS, both male) got off the waitlist at Williams today! DS also knows anecdotally of 3 friends who turned down Williams this week to go elsewhere, so perhaps that made space for 2 others? |
I have heard them say that they have ten wait-lists: in-state for each school first-years are admitted to and out of state for each of the schools. Then they move the wait-list depending on gaps. |
| Harvey Mudd also moved |
No, committed elsewhere only the day before. He had had been really stressed out about that decision, waffling between 3 options, and then came home from school and said he’d decided and we went right to the portal and paid the deposit and it was like all the stress lifted away and he was confident in his choice. So when JMU acceptance came in he was not interested in changing course. Happy that another deserving student will get to go! |
Is it for Virginia ? |
+1 Congrats to the PP's son! Our kids love JMU so much. |
My kid was offered this-but it’s different than in the past-it’s a whole year (one semester in London and one in Seville) through a different school (Verto) and then you are guaranteed summer 2027 start at GT (with 3.3 maintained GPA) It’s their top choice, but don’t think that path. Maybe one semester and if it was taught by GT professors (think it video be more like that) plus it’s $$ and no mention on costs year 2-4? |
DS also got off the waitlist of Williams today! Seems to be a lot of movement. |
| Barnard moved today! |
| lots of top LACs moving at DC's private! |
Not a good sign for small schools... |
Well I've heard from our school-based counselor that there's less interest in rural LACs compared to a few years ago, even ones that have strong reputations but are kind of in the middle of nowhere (like Williams, Carleton, Vassar, Wes, Midd).More students seem to want a different kind of student experience near urban cities: especially Boston area, NYC, Chicago area, or LA. It won't be a problem for Williams or Carleton to fill seats, there's still plenty of people who want the rural LAC experience, it just means they have to go deeper in the waitlist than in the past. |
Will be interesting to see if this is a longterm cultural change overall or if some part of it is a reaction to the pandemic shifting things around. Of course will be hard to tease that out from all the other recent changes + demographic “cliff” effect. |
