Do you not understand how city government works?

DP...I understand how city government works. The officials are elected, just like at the state level. And for some reason they keep electing Democrats. Maybe because Republicans sit there complaining about the crime but don't offer any actual solutions.

Repubs have great solutions actually. Build more prisons, hand out longer sentences, more lethal injections. The dems and the democrat voters don't like that because they're pro criminal!

And as you force more people into poverty and starvation with your bad policies, crime will continue to rise and you will have to keep building prisons until finally everyone's imprisoned.

Who's going to pay for all those prisons when there's no taxes because you won't tax the rich and you've driven the working class into poverty?

Good solutions, ackschually????

Read an account of a lady in Virginia, a few years ago came in to testify about an assault.
The prosecutor asked is the person in the courtroom right now? When she answered, the case was dismissed as a violation of the defendant's civil rights, because the courtroom was almost empty.
The arresting officer had been 'mistakenly' directed to the wrong courtroom, and didn't appear until the case was already over.
This defendant has committed many more assaults since, and has evaded jail every time.

This is where they screw up. I'm as liberal as they come and I'm OK with giving people second chances, but these prosecutors and judges who keep releasing violent REPEAT OFFENDERS onto the street have it all wrong.

I'd wager that the majority of Democrats agree with that as well. There should be some public opinion polling done on this and it should be shown to the prosecutors and judges, that we value safety from violent repeat offenders over virtue signaling.

After electing a 34x felon who then released the violent J6 insurrectionists back onto the streets, Republicans lost all credibility on crime.

This is why the dems keep losing. Dems keep doubling down on pro-crime agendas when every voter knows J6 has nothing to do with why streets are wafting with odor of marijuana and urine, toothpaste is under lock and key at Walgreens, and large swathes of America's urban centers are sundown neighborhoods where no one dares to walk at night. Voters aren't stupid, and know perfectly well J6 has zilch to do with all that.

True, Democrats would do better to highlight how rarely sexual assault cases are prosecuted, for instance. I think everyone would agree that much more concerning that theft from Walgreens (a large corporation making record profits per year).

Nah, the democrats would never highlight any type of violent crime, including sexual assault, because the disproportionate amount of black and brown faces they would be forced to show on TV would be racist. The democrats would NEVER allow a deep dive into crime-- doing so would ALWAYS increase Republican votes.

Really? Is that why democrats worked to preserve and expand VAWA? Is that why they got the Take It Down Act passed? Or spearheaded funding to test backlogged rape kits in multiple jurisdictions? What exactly are Republicans doing because throwing hissy fits about fictional litter boxes in schools?

It's not that Dem politicians don't want to take criminals off the streets, the do. However, they are aware of the downstream consequences of removing parents from their children and other ancillary effects of breaking up families which tends to continue the cycle of poverty, violence and drug use. Yes, it could all be done in a much better way. Europeans seem to have some good solutions but those would probably never fly here because of the prison industrial complex that are big donors to the GOP.

Republicans are pro crime. They keep electing felons and pedophiles and con men and rip-off artists and pathological liars and fraudsters and grifters into office. They vote for people who are fine with violent mobs of thugs attacking, vandalizing and looting government buildings and assaulting police officers. Seems the only criminals they have a problem with are non-whites. So, complete hypocrisy to constantly say "yabut Dems yabut Dems yabut Dems." DO BETTER.

No voter believes that. The fact you keep doubling down on a failed message is a bullish sign for repubs. Catch and release, abolish the police, BLM, forgiveness of criminal, light sentencing are ALL associated with dems in voters minds, and dems won't change that association by chanting J6!

Wow that’s quite an inaccurate picture.

You do know that drug use and OD rates are higher in rural populations, right?

Rural areas are much safer. Most American cities have large neighborhoods that are "sundown towns" where no one is willing to step into after dark, no matter how liberal and anti-Maga they are on the internet.

Less people usually means less crime. I have no problem going out at night and I am anti maga as they come

What a bald faced lie. Aren't you ashamed of yourself for posting lies? The mayor and district attorney of Jackson Mississippi are both democrats. Delete your lies.

LOL! And the other 19 cities on that list?

Frickin' MAGAs, I swear...

Lmao 18 out of 19 of the cities have democrat mayors and district attorneys! Do you think people just can't do a basic google search?

PP here, I admit I took the list at face value. If it's as inaccurate as a different post claims, then never mind. However, it doesn't change the fact that from everything I have heard and read, crime is still higher per capita in Red areas - focusing on urban crime, where population density skews the raw numbers, is at least somewhat disingenuous.

DP. Of course Republicans are fine with certain criminals. The entire administration, from the top down, is composed of criminals. I agree that their outrage is selective.

But petty crime and quality of life issues and violent crime in cities (which is very visible to anyone who lives or spends time in cities) is a separate issue and it is absolutely true that there are certain truths that mainstream Democratic politicians won’t say aloud, or create policy solutions and priorities to address, because they don’t conform with modern leftist ideas about equity and racism. That annoys people, including Democrats (I am one). Are the Republicans acting in bad faith by focusing on these types of crime and completely ignoring other types of crime, like grift and the completely naked corruption of the Trump and his associates in the administration? Sure. But it’s not a reasonable or persuasive argument to just start screaming about corruption and J6. These problems exist too and frankly, the Democratic Party would have much more credibility if it acknowledged them honestly.

And yet if Trump sent the National Guard to Baltimore to "reduce crime" they'd show up at the Inner Harbor.

Which would free up BPD to go after criminals instead of patrolling tourist spots which would reduce violent crimes and murders much like it has in DC.

I don’t get the point of your post. Are you implying that you’d be happier if armed NG members were busting down doors and doing no knock raids on trap houses? If they did that you would be the first to sound the alarm and call it a police state. But if they patrol areas and don’t arrest people you criticize that as well. Just admit that you’re automatically opposed to everything Trump does because of politics and you wouldn’t approve of anything he did no matter what.
