I see I'm dealing with the kind of low information voter who has not been falling the news and seen the extraordinary waste being exposed. |
Until it hits them. So far, it looks like a lot of the focus is on NIH cuts, which are currently on hold. 22 states joined in this suit; some of them are red states You can see the list in the caption https://storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.uscourts.mad.280590/gov.uscourts.mad.280590.1.0.pdf Local news outlets are beginning to publicize the effects Ohio https://www.cleveland.com/medical/2025/02/trumps-proposed-nih-cuts-threaten-northeast-ohios-biomedical-research-industry.html Arizona https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JA5ACLFosWI Alabama https://www.al.com/news/2025/02/what-would-nih-funding-cuts-mean-for-alabama-5-things-to-know.html Iowa https://www.press-citizen.com/story/news/local/2025/02/13/nih-cuts-could-mean-university-of-iowa-loses-33m-in-research-funds/78480108007/ So far, local press hasn't highlighted the fact that even if the percentage is increased from 15 per cent, grant processing is going to take a lot longer because so many NIH staff were laid off. |
Any waste comes from policy decisions. Not what generic government workers are doing. Vilifying all Feds is just as bad as vilifying all cops. Same hysterical, mindless mob behavior based on feelings. Just occurring on the opposite of the political spectrum. Come up with an informed way to cut waste. You'd have yourself a bipartisan issue. |
This. |
Why? My kid was slated to start a STEM PhD this fall and all science is on hold. Until we know the real end game eg Yarvin’s vision or whatever else they’ve cooked up, I see no point. Would be great but aren’t schools shrinking? There will be an exodus from DMV. |
| DC proper and super close in, eg Arlington, will be fine or even improve bc of return to office. centreville, Springfield, woodbridge, anything outside the beltway will be a blood bath. |
No one is vilifying all Feds. It's mostly waste to the NGOs and non-profit orgs with bloated executive salaries who think everyone should subsidize their lives that drives people who work for a living to be so upset. |
I don't even mind the That's Not My Jobs and the I'm on My Breaks at the DMV. |
Bloated nonprofit salaries is an oxymoron. I’ve worked in nonprofit work for 20 years and finally cracked $70k this year. |
The poster you replied to wasn’t suggesting the peons at ngos were getting rich. Your bosses intentionally pay you peanuts so they can drive Mercedes, buy 2M homes I arlington, etc |
Sounds like the mantra for a death cult. |
Examples? |
News? Or tweets from the guy doing the crime? If you want to know what is in the budgets of agencies, google them. They are all available to you on line. Go find the "waste" on your own. |
| If anything, my friends who work for feds, NIH, Navy / Army medicine work harder than my private sector friends. This whole thing is so sad; they are being made scapegoats. If you want to deal with the debt, look at SS / Medicare, which they’ll never touch. While our household is not fed or even fed related, we are going on a buying strike for anything nonessential in solidarity. Buy only local where possible; do not feed the tech machine that is behind this. |
I don’t think so. My boss drives a 20 year old dodge lol. |
