Losing respect for dh over passivity about the election

I'm concerned he's actually married to you. I pray he signed an airtight pre-nup.

Twenty bucks says OP's husband is voting for Trump.

Do you drama queens truly not understand this?

You left out “because we have a democratic system.”

One option in this election will be infringing on many people’s rights, including the right to fair and open elections. That’s pretty bad.

Can you link where Trump has said he is against fair and open elections? Because this I haven’t heard.

Seriously? J6 and fake electors and refusal to have a peaceful transition of power ring a bell? At a recent rally he said if you vote for him this time, you'll never have to worry about voting again.

A bunch of fear mongering.

NP here: it was an attempted coup by a bunch of un-American traitors who hate freedom.

It sickens me to see Trump voters try to wrap themselves in the flag, patriotism, and the Constitution. They deserve none of that because they already forfeited it on January 6.

January 6th was a few ridiculous crazy people. I could say the same thing about connecting you to the people who were murdering innocent people and setting homes and businesses on fire during the BLM rallies-again it was crazy people not the vast majority.

Do not underestimate Trump’s allegiance to what you believe were “a few ridiculous crazy people.” He has said he would pardon them. I don’t see Biden or Harris saying they would pardon anyone over violence linked to Black Lives Matter protests.

Not only is Trump a petulant liar he’s a traitor criminal shit

Anyone who votes for his is a traitor as well

Listen…realistically this country will never be able to do the crazy things you so believe will happen if Trump wins. You do realize the president is not the end all be all? There are checks and balances for a reason and I honestly believe He will be thrown out of office if anything as drastic as people think will happen is actually put forward. As much as you are afraid-I absolutely believe that this country as a whole will not let things get to that point. If things start reaching a dangerous level it’s just not going to be tolerated.

He is one man.

I'm completely disillusioned with our "democracy." It's actually rather freeing to feel this way. And pathetic to watch a bunch of people get all self-righteous about how horrible Trump is but who can't bring themselves to give two sh**ts about children being blown to bits and starved to death with US tax dollars.

How old are you? Are you some emo teenager?

Glad you’re already disillusioned with our democracy, it’ll be easier on you when it’s gone forever because you have reached adulthood and yet still don’t understand that humans fight for resources…

I'm a mid-40s UMC white lady, actually. I hope Harris loses Michigan over this, and loses the whole election. The Dems can all go to hell. So sick of fake "liberals" and "progessives."

Of course you are. That’s the prime virtue-signaling demographic.

But seriously. Do you think Trump is going to… NOT support Israel? Support Gaza?

Trump has no ideological commitment to Israel. He is committed only to himself. He could definitely decide to stop sending Israel weapons. The Israelis know that he might ditch them. Biden is ideologically committed to Israel, and Harris shows no daylight between herself and Biden, and has not called for the US to abide by its own laws governing weapons transfers. Trump is a criminal who should have been prosecuted for his crimes. Biden and other officials who are breaking US laws are also criminals who should be prosecuted for violating US law. The difference is that this has caused the deaths of tens of thousands (likely more) of civilians. Trump's crimes did not kill large numbers of civilians. Stop letting the Dems off the hook of you actually care about the rule of law.

I think the rise of Trump and his supporters represents (reflects?) an existential crisis for *our own* country. So Sorry, I don’t really care about the neverending conflicts in the Middle East right now. We’ve got bigger concerns right here at home.

The neverending conflicts in the Middle East are funded by your tax dollars. If the US had stopped sending weapons to Israel, it would have literally run out of bombs a long time ago. If the US hadn't been providing political cover to the Israeli regime to defend its crimes, Israel would not have been able to continue its theft of Palestinian land and killing of Palestinians. The US is a full party to these conflicts in the Middle East.

I think you missed my point: I DON’T CARE.

You are a bad person. Sorry. You have made it likely that he will not share things with you in the future. Have your views and beliefs but they do not need to become your spouses.

Not sure what you are even talking about. Support for Israel in this county is higher than support for Harris or Trump. The genocide is by Hamas not Israel which is a democracy and not committing war crimes. The bad people are Hamas and those that allow them to exist.

Do you remember when Trump moved the Ameican embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem? Everyone was scratching their heads on why he would do that without getting a concession from Israel. He also proclaimed US recognition of the Golan Heights as part of Israel, making the US the first country to do so.

Well, in retrospect, the reason he did that is because of multiple millions of donations from Sheldon Adelson, an Israeli-American casino magnate who had called for these actions. He is now passed away but his wife is continuing to donate to the Trump campaign in exchange for Israel's annexation of the West Bank.

"Adleson set to give over $100 million to Israel-supporting Trump” - Times of Israel, May 14, 2016

"Trump is desperate for Miriam Adelson's Cash. Her condition: West Bank Annexation" - Haaretz June 4, 2024

Mark my words, if Trump wins, he will assist the Israeli’s in removing all Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank. He will push other Middle East countries to assist by taking in expellees. He will also once again seek to expel Muslims from the US and ban them from entry.

I’m appalled both by the Oct 7th attack and by how the Israelis have taken military actions far beyond their legitimate right to self-defense as bounded by international law.

But, I don’t think not voting or voting for Trump improves the situation. I personally take the position advocated by the signees of this letter - https://coppercourier.com/2024/10/25/arizona-palestine-harris-ceasefire/

But I know many others who will swap their vote in order to both ensure Harris wins and register a large, but constitutionally safe, protest vote.
See https://www.swapyourvote.org/ - voters in swing states can swap with safe states.

The fact that you feel your disengagement from American politics is "freeing" is reflective of your privilege. The rest of us care about access to affordable health care, making a living, the environment, taking care of our elderly parents, the cost of higher education, safe neighborhoods, decent schools, and a million other things.

I don't know you. But I do know I despise rich people like you. You and your kind are gifting America to the oligarchs. F u.
