Losing respect for dh over passivity about the election

I'm completely disillusioned with our "democracy." It's actually rather freeing to feel this way. How old are you? Are you some emo teenager?

Glad you’re already disillusioned with our democracy, it’ll be easier on you when it’s gone forever because you have reached adulthood and yet still don’t understand that humans fight for resources…

I'm a mid-40s UMC white lady, actually. I hope Harris loses Michigan over this, and loses the whole election. The Dems can all go to hell. So sick of fake "liberals" and "progessives."

Of course you are. That’s the prime virtue-signaling demographic.

But seriously. Do you think Trump is going to… NOT support Israel? Support Gaza?

Trump has no ideological commitment to Israel. He is committed only to himself. He could definitely decide to stop sending Israel weapons. The Israelis know that he might ditch them. Biden is ideologically committed to Israel, and Harris shows no daylight between herself and Biden, and has not called for the US to abide by its own laws governing weapons transfers. Trump is a criminal who should have been prosecuted for his crimes. Biden and other officials who are breaking US laws are also criminals who should be prosecuted for violating US law. The difference is that this has caused the deaths of tens of thousands (likely more) of civilians. Trump's crimes did not kill large numbers of civilians. Stop letting the Dems off the hook of you actually care about the rule of law.

I think the rise of Trump and his supporters represents (reflects?) an existential crisis for *our own* country. So Sorry, I don’t really care about the neverending conflicts in the Middle East right now. We’ve got bigger concerns right here at home.

You should care because it has destroyed whatever was left of US influence in much of the world. Watch how it bites us in butt as more and more countries turn to China and Russia.

I should also add that the neverending conflicts in the Middle East are fuelled by the US. If the US had stopped sending weapons to Israel, they would have literally run out of bombs a long time ago. The US is a full party to these conflicts.

You're insane.

I went and voted for Kamala today and did that grudgingly given her many flaws. That's the most anyone, including my spouse, can ask of me this cycle.

The neverending conflicts in the Middle East are funded by your tax dollars. If the US had stopped sending weapons to Israel, it would have literally run out of bombs a long time ago. If the US hadn't been providing political cover to the Israeli regime to defend its crimes, Israel would not have been able to continue its theft of Palestinian land and killing of Palestinians. The US is a full party to these conflicts in the Middle East.

Do you remember when Trump moved the Ameican embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem? Everyone was scratching their heads on why he would do that without getting a concession from Israel. He also proclaimed US recognition of the Golan Heights as part of Israel, making the US the first country to do so.

Well, in retrospect, the reason he did that is because of multiple millions of donations from Sheldon Adelson, an Israeli-American casino magnate who had called for these actions. He is now passed away but his wife is continuing to donate to the Trump campaign in exchange for Israel's annexation of the West Bank.

"Adleson set to give over $100 million to Israel-supporting Trump” - Times of Israel, May 14, 2016

"Trump is desperate for Miriam Adelson's Cash. Her condition: West Bank Annexation" - Haaretz June 4, 2024

I'm not aware the Biden or Harris take/took Adelson money and they still give Israel a blank check.

I think trump is a petulant vengeful baby who brings out the worst and appeals to the worst in humanity and cannot believe he is on the ticket (have voted both ways in the past but trump to me is next level insane). Trying to get dh to do canvassing/ phone banking but he doesn’t want to and is not concerned bc ‘it’s fine’ and ‘Kamala will win’. Clearly the polls do not clearly show this and to me his disinterest is personal - so many more women and babies have died since roe reversed. I just feel like he is a weenie not to be as fired up as I am or at least in the ballpark of it. Anyone else?

He is more than a weeny. he is a selfish douche. Stop spending your energy trying to convince or force him. Go about your life and do the things you think are important.

Sadly, I think we have to realize (but not accept) that generally men don’t give a crap about women. There’s a reason why Michelle Obama was begging men to care about women’s lives in her speech - most of them generally don’t.

For you, it’s your husband who is showing he doesn’t care, which is very painful. For me, it’s my brothers. My brother continues to say explicitly that he will vote for Trump, “because he’s better for the economy” and that’s what’s good for him. Despite the fact that I have said to him that Trump, objectively, has already and will continue to make the life of his lesbian niece, whom he professes to love, much harder. So hard in fact, that she may choose to move out of the country. My brothers also have made it clear that, despite the fact that they know almost nothing about pregnancy conditions, women can’t be trusted to make decisions in the 3rd month of pregnancy. It makes me very sad that they do not value my life or the life of my kids and their future. We are not estranged, but this definitely has made me less interested in supporting them. Support can no longer be one way from women to men.

For all of us, we have to stop investing in men, supporting men, and trying to teach or get them to be good men. Be a good guy or get the heck out of my way. I’m done wasting my energy on them.

Meh. Don’t be made at your brothers. Be mad at me instead. I’m a woman who is voting for Trump. (And also you may want to be careful with your non-inclusive language that suggests abortion or pregnancy conditions are “women’s issues”—yours is the party of science that believes “some men can get pregnant” and “some men have abortions”)

Ditto. Woman here voting for Trump for the third time because not all of us believe in the right to kill innocent humans in utero.

I was pro-life. I still consider myself pro-life although I never bring it up because people misunderstand. But being pro-life means I value the life of the mother. Not having an exception for health of the mother is barbaric. Not having an exception for minors who are pregnant is barbaric. Additionally, an embryo is not life yet. And, since many hold this view from a religious point of view, I want to point out that the Bible clearly did not see an unborn fetus as equal in life to a mother (Exodus 21:22) At the end of the day, neither red state laws nor pregnancy on demand for 9 months accurately represents my viewpoint but if I value life, I have to value the one that protects the lives of girls and women who are pregnant — that allows a 12yo to have a quick and quiet abortion, that allows a woman who just found out she has cancer to have an abortion, that allows a college student who suffers with depression an abortion.

Crime is down. Inflation is down. If we are on the verge of WW III, the last person we want in charge is the guy who didn’t serve in the military, who cozies up to Putin, who threatens to withdraw from NATO.
