PSAT Results - Compare

My kid got a 1500 on his PSAT last year and 1500 on SAT this year. He’s chasing full ride merit and has started to get initial offers.

Here’s one example - he also applied to U Oklahoma, U Alabama, USF and UT Dallas for full rides

I want to encourage you to continue your academic career at The University of Tulsa. UTulsa boasts more enrolled National Merit Scholars than any other school in the country. More than 1 in 3 students are National Merit Scholars! I’d love to count you among our outstanding students.

As a National Merit Semifinalist, you qualify for the National Merit Semifinalist Package upon admission to UTulsa. The National Merit Semifinalist Package covers full tuition, room and board, fees, and books. This package is unlike any other scholarship program in the U.S., and I sincerely hope you will take advantage of it and join me at UTulsa. The scholarship has a value of over $245,000.

ouch

Will be commended and did no work to improve. Likely will hit above a 1500 now…even with little or no work.

any clue hat commended cutoff ill be this year? was 208 last year

Best estimates can be found here https://www.compassprep.com/national-merit-semifinalist-cutoffs/, though I don't think there is any estimate for this year yet. The commended cutoff will be announced in April.

It shows Compass’s initial estimate for Class of 2026 commended cutoff
Estimated range 207-211, Most likely 208

Looks like the estimate for the commended cutoff is now 210.

"Updated with test taker data through October 26th
We have now received scores from an estimated 85% of class of 2026 PSAT takers, and the results point to a strong upward trend in cutoffs. The final wave of scores will be released to students on November 14th, and we expect to have further updates.

sounds like 210-212 commended

is compass always right? 11/14 they should now for sure?

Just got an email from our college counseling office saying they will be out later today. My junior will be traveling so I guess we'll find out whenever they land this evening. Wonder why cutoffs look to be much higher this year.

Mine did way worse as 10th grader. Sigh.

Yea we’re sitting over here with a 940 wondering if college is even an option

Respectfully, this is just wrong. I know you are disappointed, but c’mon. Most schools are test optional. I'm sure your kid is at a decent school and doing fine. Of course they are going to college and will do well.

Kid just texted me with his score; taken on 10/23 I think:
740RW/760M

He thinks he bombed the 11/2 SAT though - is planning to take it again in Feb or March.

My kid is super frustrated that the nm cut off score heavily weights the R/W over the math. If it were the other way around, he would be easily in the running for NMSF.

1210. Much better in RW which is surprising. All of the practices had it the other way. Kid is going to have to get serious. We made the older brother work like a farm animal to get 99th percentile scores. Looks like this kid is in for some extra time at the white board

I think this is true for most ppl and if reversed, the cutoffs would be higher.

Anonymous wrote:What weirdo family preps their kid for the 10th grade PSAT? Who even has time for that? That is the prep, lol. Have them get a job instead. No wonder there is so much anxiety problems with kids now.

No one should have their kid prep before a 10th grade PSAT. However, plenty do take it in 10th for an indication of where they stand.

10th and 11th grade PSAT both count for the national recognition programs. So if your kid is eligible for one of those, they should prep for the 10th grade PSAT.

That’s wrong. 10th grade does not

Right. The juniors who just took the PSAT are class of 2027.

No, Sophomores are 2027. Juniors are 2026.

Why would you do this?

10th grader just got his scores, 760M and 710RW. He’s very disappointed in the reading score even though he did nothing to prep. Likely to improve for 11th grade?
