How is that being felt??? MCPS starting providing downloadable data last year with the release of the new school profile dashboard. I agree this is taking that vain a step further in the name of transparency but I’m not sure anyone feels any differently about it. If anything it probably makes it easier for them because they can tell the BOE and their staff to crunch their own numbers if they have questions.

Are you asking why Taylor didn't go back in time and implement a plan from three years before he was hired?

Honestly, folks, let's give the guy a chance. We all want the same thing (except the trolls that are just here to undermine faith in public education). It's been fewer than six months and he's already given clearer answers to many questions than McKnight gave in three years on the job.

We need *someone* in the superintendent role, and it would be great if MCPS parents stopped living up to their reputation as making it not worth the job.

That's a ridiculous read on why the poster was sharing this.

The reality is there is an existing strategic plan. Given the failures and disruptions that have happened within MCPS, which parts of the existing strategic plan is he moving forward and which parts is he not? That is a very reasonable ask to have of a superintendent who knew damn well he was stepping into a leadership position for a system that is very much in crisis and distress.

As already shared above, Taylor addresses the strategic plan here:

https://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/superintendent/entry-plan/#strategicplan

By basically sharing that the current Strategic Plan is ending and so a new one will be created? How revolutionary from him to share something that everyone already knows.

And the team shared nothing worthwhile in the latest Strategic Planning Committee meeting. The didn’t share the 23/24 actual data. They didn’t share any info about Phase 1, despite create a Phase 1B. They didn’t provide dates for the next phase meetings despite them supposing to be taking place in October and November. They didn’t align any specific delivery expectations with planned committee meetings.

If there was anything I would expect to see him speaking up on and the team providing key info and details on during a BOE meeting it would be the CurrentStrategic Plan and new plan’s planning. Because that a primary function of the Chief Executive aka Superintendent.

All he said about it was this: "The current MCPS strategic plan is in its fourth and final year, which means the district is beginning the work necessary to review and adjust goals, measurements and outcomes for the Fiscal Year 2026-2029 MCPS Strategic Plan."

Which basically says he's gonna deal with the current plan by incorporating its failings or missteps in his development of the new strategic plan. So basically, he's not doing ANYTHING with the existing strategic plan other than letting it continue on, even though he lacks visibility into how its performing. That's an odd choice.

Downloadable data is nice. But not a significant enough change to clap for him as some kind of change agent.

+1. Why do MCPS CO and Admin keep showing up places not fully prepared to talk to situations. I mean they weren’t terrible but not having answers to what changes are being discussed or put in place for the future is clearly a reasonable question to prepare to answer.

He let Dana Edwards fall flat on her face. Maybe it was intentional.

Edwards will get a raise and an upgrade on her MCPS car.

+1 He inherited a team that included folks like Edwards who had previously been removed from her position for corruption and cronyism. The optics of a full-scale house cleaning are bad, so he needs to give each of them a chance to succeed, and then document when they do not.

This is what a transition period looks like, particularly when someone is actually interested in making changes. Most MCPS parents haven't seen it before because McKnight came up from inside with all of the connections and loyalties inherent therein.
