We have been getting reimbursed something like 90 dollars per level 3 sick visit since 2008. No increase. Think of how much inflation we have had since 2008.

People just dont understand it. In dentistry we are getting $46 from delta dental for cleaning teeth, 15 years ago the hygienist was making $35-40/hour for a $46 cleaning appt. Now they are at $70/hour and its $46 for a cleaning!!!! LOL Has anyone ate our recently?? Something that you poop out in 24 hours is more expensive than a dental cleaning that should last 6 months????? Its broken, its the insurance companies and the politicians like obama (aka obama care) who made you feel all warm inside but forgot to mention that it will turn into a shit show. You're welcome! Blame your doctor! No wonder the thread's title is "Dr firing patients"

How many cleanings can you do in an hour? It's not 1 cleaning per hour is it? I know my hygienist doesn't spend an hour on my teeth.

New poster, but let’s say the hygienist does 3 patients an hour. He or she then takes home more than half of that. The receptionist still has to get paid, along with the building rent, the equipment, and oh yeah the actual dentist.

Ok, now how much do you charge for fillings, crowns, root canals, extractions, X-rays, fluoride treatments, cosmetic dentistry, Invisalign, etc? Or does your office only do cleanings all day long?

My provider charges $180 for cleanings, and that does but even count his once over which he charges for separately. You can’t get a cleaning without a dentist charge. Oh, and then they push x/rays though you have no symptoms whatsoever . It is a moneymaking racket, that has made me lose all respect for dentistry.

you can't really do a cleaning in 20 minutes unless it's a cooperative child with good cleaning habits who doesn't need xrays

My doctor takes NO insurance, and will not participate in Medicare. Yet she has recently started charging a “administrative fee.” Her office staff provides NO administrative services to patients (does not mail claims to insurance companies, for example), yet every year I have to cough up $240 for her administrative fee. I am convinced we are paying her her staff so she does not have to .

I am a healthcare provider in a larger corporate type office and these are the most common reasons why patients get dismissed:
Threatening behavior
Persistent requests for pain meds
Refusal to follow specific treatment recommendations, like "get a biopsy"
Less commonly, it's due to divergent views on therapy:if you want to manage your thyroid disorder with massage and yoga, your endocrinologist will likely not concur

The dentist is busy doing other general dentistry while the hygienist cleans. And those x-rays aren't free. Why are people acting like nobody has ever been to a dentist and it's all a mystery? The dentist isn't twiddling his thumbs watching the hygienist works. In that same hour multiple services are being performed. Also the cleaning may turn up a cavity and then suddenly "Jackpot!" Somehow these businesses stay afloat.

"Threatening behavior" to include threatening a doctor's ego, or threatening to call them out on their bullshit/pointing out a mistake/flaw that reveals they're not the godbeing they believe(d) themselves to be.

Does it feel good to joke about violence in Healthcare? Is it funny to you that patients regularly assault nurses and physicians? Real joke isn't it?

What about these surveys that doctors send out after visits? I don't fill them out, even if I would like to give feedback, because I'm not sure that they are anonymous and fear that it is too easy to work out who gave certain answers. Does a patient risk being fired if they fill out the surveys?

I don't fill out surveys, and I only will write a review if I am 100% happy.

No, I would be very surprised if that happened.

You are a sad person. If you yourself were talented, in demand, or otherwise a person whose time was worth something you wouldn’t have this attitude. I’m sorry you are so pedestrian.

DP
I mean, you can think that, but people are people, and nobody that thin-skinned could keep an office open. It's still dealing with the public at large, and people in distress.

Usually people with that kind of comment have some interesting history not being shared, but of course, no comment on any given person in particular.

Why bother even going to the doctor then? If all you want is to be able to pull some “gotcha!” moment

I’m a dentist and I’ve fired patients- officially, only two in the last five years, unofficially, we make it hard for people we don’t like to come back- more “you’ll call us, we won’t go out of our way to call or schedule you.”

The reason for firing patients in plain and simple- don’t act like a jackass. People using rude language towards me, my staff. Don’t act like a jerk. The last patient swatted my assistants hand away when she was trying to place something during a dental procedure. Guess what? If my assistant punctures her skin with a sharp object that she’s holding while you do that, I get to deal with a workers comp claim and take both of you to the ER for dental work. I have no time or tolerance for that.
Repeatedly cancelling appointments- with the amount I have to pay my hygienist, if you miss even one appointment, I am losing money on your appointment. OF COURSE emergencies happen and we accommodate that. But people who literally sit there and tell me their job is more important than their dental appointment- yeah, you can find somewhere else to go.
I do understand that dental procedures are not everyone’s favorite, but people refusing to recognize this and either seek sedation dentistry or TELL the dentist beforehand, does not make the situation better for anyone.
End rant 😂
