Which school?

Pyle is one.

PP here. I heard that from one of the APs.

Pyle has almost 1300 students enrolled this year. Maybe they are anticipating more next year to warrant a fourth AP.

Julius West already has over 1300 and has only three APs.

They have an IB/MYP coordinator (which is the same level as an AP) that counts as one of their AP allocations.

Pyle is projected to have 1270. That’s less than the numbers listed above. So why are they getting an extra AP next year?

This is incorrect IB coordinators are teacher leaders, not administrators. They are part of MCEA not MCAAP. and most teach at least 1 class, or are part time.

Anyone know how this decision gets made? Is it a director advocating for a school they oversee? Is it when central thinks an admin team needs more support for some reason? If not numbers how does this get decided.

Not sure, but the allocation charts in the operating budget are just guidelines, not rules.

Does that mean a principal can fight a decision that someone has been involuntarily transferred from their staff?

If they have space, a principal can get an involuntarily transferred teacher back. But a teacher is involuntarily transferred when there're too many teachers. There's only a space if a different teacher leaves or more students show up.

The principal makes the final selection of the staff member. They get staffing allocation, decide how to use it, and then make transfers from there. So if they lose one special education position and two general education positions, they go from there. And try to base transfers on least time in the county but there are ways around that.

Can they move a teacher to get an extra admin? It sounds like there’s more flexibility with admin numbers than teachers?

Maybe you all should start a new thread about staffing allocations.
