How proud are you to be an American?

You clearly lack knowledge of this topic, lack empathy and need clarity. Heartbreaking ignorance.

On the contrary I know a ton. I know I don’t support terrorism. I am a proud American who upholds American values.

Are we?

Because right now it’s looking like Trump is going to win the GOP primary.

Oh please. You all want him to win. The entire media is in simultaneous salivating/panic mode over it. Salivating that he will clench the nomination so they can have ratings bonanza talking about him nonstop again for the next six months. And panic that they might cause him to win again because they have learned absolutely nothing from ignoring voters last time.

^ Here is an example of Americans not being “smarter than this”. So embarrassing.

Oh hey that’s a great strategy. Insult and talk down to those who aren’t in lockstep with your political ideaology. That always works out well.

We know from experience that it’s worthless to reason with irrational people.

The fact that Trump is winning primaries shows us that we are not “smarter than this”. We have millions of proudly ignorant people in this country.

Nope. Not ignorant people. Lots of folks who are fed up with the left and making a statement (that the left refuses to listen to) - we’d rather vote for Trump than any of the garbage you’re offering up. And honestly, I get it.

You’re proving my point.

And yet, you still won’t change. Interesting.

I’m not the reason why people vote for Trump.

I didn’t make them irrational, spiteful, or ignorant.

Genocide and segregation? Yes, the USA has a history of both. I hope we as a nation has moved beyond that. Unfortunately, Israel is still practicing such atrocities. Shame.

You have obviously never been to Israel because it does neither of those things. Now Arab nations, they actually do those things, including to Palestinians.

You seriously have to ask? How about harsher criminal punishments instead of letting the jacka$$es run amok in dc (and many other areas in the US). And tightening up the borders, to start?

And you think this makes your point look…reasonable? Lord almighty if this is the nonsense coming from some parts of the left we really are doomed.

It’s pretty disturbing and disgusting that so many on the right continue to find excuses for the January 6th insurrectionist. Back the Blue. What a load of horse shiit.

DP, but did it never occur to you (genius that you are) that a huge swathe of the country voted for him in the first place because they felt totally disenfranchised and ignored? Of course not. You dug in your heels and continued to ridicule/talk down to them and insultingly dismiss their grievances as mere “racism” (and any other “isms” you could think of). And then you were shocked and outraged when these same people had the audacity to vote for him AGAIN. And now here you, repeating the same ignorant cycle.

It’s not JUST the Trump voters who are “proudly ignorant”…

So what does he offer that no other Republican can?

If he wins the nomination, he will be the only republican offering the nomination.

I personally would prefer Nikki Haley be our next president, but there is democracy to consider.

If he is the nominee, I will do exactly what all you dems did, and vote for the nominee even if he was not my first choice. That is how this all works.

Crime, the open border, and inflation are out of control, and Biden is not doing anything to change any of that. He won’t even step in to help DC even though he controls the US Atty office in DC; I guess Biden wants all the criminal cases dismissed in DC (since that is what’s happening).

Why do you not think they are criminals? Or do you think they are just patriots who acted because they thought they were saving us from the evil Dems? Please explain why you think they are not criminals. Most of them are sitting in jail now btw so there were laws on the books against that kid of behavior.

I never once said they weren’t. I said they are not the same as those who participated in Jan 6. It’s a huge problem that you are equating them to murderers. There are different levels of criminal behavior - which is why we have different levels of punishment.
I feel like I’m talking to a 5 year old.

Four police officers lost their lives as a result of that riot. Other officers were severely injured. I know of at least one who lost an eye. Some officers were mildly injured. Others retired or left on disability. It was not a nonviolent, non-contact event.

Democracy to consider? Indeed. If Trump wins, what do you think will happen to it.

Biden is not doing anything to change any of it? I think you want to say "I don't like what Biden is doing" because he is doing plenty.

So again, other than blind hate for Biden and your apparent ignorance about how people get elected in this country, what does Trump actually offer that no other Republican does?

Do we have issues and problems? Sure. But this is the best place with the most freedom. Is that unequal? Of course. But we work on that as we have.

We lead the world not by force although we could. We lead based on our ideals and what we aim for ever if we do not get it.

We are the only country that matters in the world. The only essential country.

We don’t get it right all the time but that is also part of what makes me proud to be an American.

The United States of America ranks 17 on the Human Freedom Index. https://www.cato.org/sites/cato.org/files/2023-12/human-freedom-index-2023-full-revised.pdf

The country with the most freedom is Switzerland, followed by New Zealand and then Denmark.

How many of those countries would be free if America hadn’t entered WW II and fought for freedom? How many would be free if we hadn’t formed NATO to defend freedom? How many would be free if we hadn’t set the precedent with our revolution that the divine right of kings could not only be defied and overcome, but that the people could form a stable government and rule themselves?

Most of them. Switzerland was neutral. New Zealand FOUGHT in WWII (ANZAC soldiers). So did Australia (#14). Of the countries above the USA, many of them were unaffected by WWII. Hell, JAPAN ranks ahead of the USA on this list.

Moreover, if you really have to point to something that happened 80 years ago as proof that you should jingoistically proud of the USA TODAY, you're grasping at straws.

You act like the USA invented freedom. It didn't. Hell, we wouldn't be a COUNTRY if it wasn't for France, and the French today are cheese-eating surrender monkeys. So whatever is your point?

PP you responded to

The USA didn’t invent freedom. We did, however, pave the way for it to be so widespread.

Yes, Australia and New Zealand fought in WWII, along with a great many other of our allies. Do you think they would have had a chance of winning without the US? I suspect Australia and New Zealand would have been absorbed into the Japanese empire.

Japan certainly wasn’t free before WWII. It was their defeat and occupation by America that allows them to be free today.

Would Switzerland as a neutral country been allowed to exist as an island in the midst of a conquered Europe, surrounded entirely by the Nazi Third Reich? Possibly, for a while, but I think they would have only been as independent as Germany allowed.

Yes, France helped us gain our independence. We couldn’t have done it without them. We owe the French people a debt of gratitude. We were able to honor that debt to help them in WWI and WWII, but they still deserve better than to be called cheese-eating surrender monkeys. They were also allies in WWII (with Australia and New Zealand) and fought with us more recently in Afghanistan.

France’s aid during our revolution, however, was motivated more, I think, by their desire to oppose and weaken England than as a desire to see freedom defeat tyranny. They were, at that time, under tyranny themselves. Our revolution inspired theirs.

And as for the last 80 years, much of Europe would have been in danger of the Soviet Union (like Ukraine faces from Russia now) if America hadn’t helped form and support NATO. Not to mention the aid we provided to a devastated Europe once the war ended allowed the stability needed for free governments to reform where necessary and survive. In chaos and desperation, it is much easier for corruption to flourish and/or dictators to seize power.

Is this the point at which we discuss the atrocities toward gay men and women that are still being practiced and supported in Palestine, or no?

That doesn’t justify holding an entire population in prison camps. Sorry.
