Calling people trash because they want to escape extreme poverty and give their children a semblance of life is super classy. Keep it coming America. Just what Jesus would do. |
Where did your ancestors come from dumbass? |
Except if any Republican wins in Nov or they get the house and senate we will never vote again. Americans are so stupid. We are going to lose the right to vote. They will install a king and it's over. Living in North Korea will be so fun Maga??????? |
There is not much to love. 25 states just signed on for a civil war, when in many of their constitutions say they can not secede.... The Republican party is the party of PUTIN. All for a fat orange idiot criminal traitor to the US. |
Do either of you think this is constructive discussion? I think there are arguments on both sides to be made, but this type of discourse is not going to convince the other of anything and will encourage others to ignore both of you. Why don’t you each articulate your positions, and then back them up with more detailed explanations, and perhaps even some actual facts. They’ll be far more persuasive than name-calling. Bonus points if you can link to independent sources to support your claims and verify your facts. |
This is what I don't understand. When did a large minority of MAGA Americans decide they don't want to have a democracy any more? It seems like one smart black man was elected president and the MAGAs totally lost their freaking minds. |
If you’d bother to read some of the responses, you’d see that some of us have been articulating our points all along and that there was no name calling. What do you have to add to the discussion expect for condescension? |
There are no factories; they were all boxed up in the early 2000s and shipped to China and, to a lesser extent, Mexico. Low-skilled manufacturing is dead in this country, except for the jobs that manufacturing can't fill because even those born in the USA, having attended US schools and being fully literate (to a degree), lack the skills to be employed in skilled factory jobs. And one can think the farms could use some extra labor, but even farms are becoming less dependent on low-skilled human labor. The industry is becoming increasingly mechanized, and Independent family farm numbers are shrinking as Big Ag expands its reach. Big Ag = Bigger money and incentive to buy farm equipment, which reduces labor costs. There are no factory jobs and fewer farm jobs, which is backbreaking work anyway; if you can get a job as a construction laborer, the pay is better, and there is room to grow. More so now than at any other time in history, people are not settling in cities but rather suburban centers. |
Why complain about human capital flowing in? Figure out a way to use it.
I just don't get what's so terrible about immigrants. The ones I've met are hardworking and want to be part of the United States. The choices don't have to be kick them out or take them unconditionally. Pass some normal laws. - broken windows policing or you'll be deported - ESL classes available everywhere - have them construct their own townhouses I welcome them, personally. We just need to figure out how to use the situation to make the United States stronger. |
Automatic citizenship for anyone who serves in the army for 2 years
Or does community service for 600 hours |
He wore a tan suit and now I don’t have bodily autonomy. |
Abe Lincoln would be the best presidential candidate. |
I agree this is a critical time. That’s why it’s imperative everyone gets involved. That’s why I’m voting a straight Democratic ticket even though before Trump, as a conservative pro-lifer, I nearly always voted Republican. That’s why I’ve been talking to my Republican parents for years, trying to convince them why, despite what they hear on Fox news, they can’t vote for Trump or his fellow Republican toadies. What you need to do is to engage Republicans and with logical, reasonable, and courteous discourse, show them why voting Republican is a danger to the country. The truth is on your side. Talk to them about right and wrong in terms of Trump and democracy - not in terms of how evil they are if they don’t agree with you on specific issues. Specific issues are irrelevant in this election. If conservative never-Trumpers can overlook the issues to preserve democracy, Democrats should muster up the grace to overlook the specific issues for the same cause. Insulting them is only going to harden their opposition against you. Voting against firmly held convictions is hard enough, you don’t need to add insult to injury. You have to consider what’s more important to you and to America, their vote against tyranny or your smug satisfaction at insulting a political adversary. Our goal needs to be converting adversaries into allies. If we preserve freedom long enough to defeat the imminent threat of tyranny, then we can go back to partisan bickering about issues. In the meantime, focus on the only issue that matters. If you allow them to, you may even find them willing to support you on specific issues along the way - especially if you allow the possibility that people of good conscience can sometimes disagree and if you even have the humility to consider the unlikely possibility that you might not be 100% right on every disagreement and they might not be 100% wrong. |
I appreciate the posters who have been articulating their points all along. My post was intended for the two previous posters in this thread who were derailing the discussion with name calling like “trash” and “dumbass”. My hope was to salvage the discussion before those who were interested in articulating their points abandoned this topic together, leaving only an unproductive back-and-forth of personal insults. I even acknowledged that there were potential arguments for those posters to make, hoping they’d actually elaborate on their position so we could discuss and explore it. Unfortunately, it appears they’re not as interested in discussing their position as I am in hearing it. |
