no, actually it is not. MPD rarely releases names of traffic offenders. because their offenses are considered “accidents” and not crimes until proven otherwise. |
This has all the hallmarks of something that will get swept under the rug. Local media does not seem at all curious about what happened either. |
NP. I work with similar federal police. We don't release names of active police investigations. Other localities (states/counties) have different FOIA rules. |
Local media stands down when they get told to stand down. Same thing happened with the former Congress employee who was killed outside a bar in SW DC in an altercation - that case was closed very quickly by MPD. Very strange that no surveillance video was released. |
when will they release the name of the driver? |
|
when someone FOIAs it, or when the families get it in discovery in a lawsuit and release it. |
How is it that we know:
the car that crashed while fleeing the traffic stop had 44 unpaid speed camera tickets, totaling $12,300. Of the unpaid tickets, 28 are listed for speeding and one is for running a red light. This year alone, the driver racked up nine speeding tickets, with the most recent being from two weeks ago But not the identity of the driver? Doesn’t that seem kind of odd? |
Ticketing information is available for all cars (by license plate) to the public, whether you committed a horrific crime or not. Driver names are not. https://dmv.dc.gov/service/pay-tickets |
If its Park Police who are investigating, be prepared to wait years. The guy who killed pedestrians at East Potomac Park didn't have his name released for two years. |
Meanwhile, the name of the driver who killed 6 construction workers on the 695 was released within 48 hours. What's going on here... |
That's true. |
What did I just say here? The Bmore crash isn't being investigated by US Park Police. |
I’m still waiting for the name of the shooter in the fatal carjacking in Potomac Yards / Alexandria last May. |
Why would you want to release the name of the victim who successfully defended themself? That puts them at risk. It should be enough that three little felons tried to cross the river and steal somebody's car with a gun, and found out their victim also had a gun and knew how to use it. The best part about this is there hasn't been another armed car jacking in Alexandria since then. We should cheer this "shooter," not dox them. |
